Kagome screwed her eyes shut tight. Willing her runaway thoughts to dissipate. This had to be the fever at work. She stayed like that focusing on her breathing to keep herself from looking at him. This is Sesshomaru, her friend, just a friend... a friend.... friend. She repeated this to herself in her head like a mantra. She swallowed... Yes, a friend.

Before she knew it the need to blow her nose overcame her. She cringed at how gross she must be but at the same time she couldn't bring herself to care enough to do anything about it. And at the same time, it was a sobering thought that grounded her in her resolve to shove everything back into its neat little box. This was a not so subtle reminder of her human-ness.

Yeah, who would want this. But as the bed dipped the traitorous part of her whispered; yet here he was.
