Backstory - Primrose Nygard

As mentioned in a previous chapter, every character (every account) on World of Metahumans has their own backstory (called a 'Meta Human Transcript'), which describes who your character is, how they came to Metropolis University, how they gained their powers, and sometimes even lots more. Today another example, this time from Primrose Nygard! (All credits go to her.)

"Do I just state my name? My age? My powers? What would you like?"

"Let's start with your name and from there on; your whole story."

"Well, okay then."

"My name is Primrose Tiye Castellanos- no, Primrose Tiye Nygard. I'm a Hybrid. My dad wasn't human but from Krypton. My mum is just human, just like all my siblings. Though, I'm fairly certain some of them are about to become metahumans too... You know what, let me start all over again. I was born in New York."

Primrose was indeed born in New York. As the daughter of a human by the name of Marie Galanis and a Kryptonian named Tor-Da, but who went by the human name of Tobin Castellanos. Tobin was never supposed to stay on Earth. He would just be here for a year or two - but in that time, he met Marie and they fell in love. It was only short but amazing. They never got married or moved in together, but Marie did get pregnant. The little half-Kryptonian girl was born, Primrose Tiye. For a couple of months, they were a family - just the three of them, but then Tobin went back to Krypton. The place where he belonged. Nonetheless, Marie (who was still deeply in love with Tobin, even though she knew there was little possibility that they would ever see each other again) didn't give the newborn her surname, which she could have easily done. No, she wanted Primrose to at least carry something of her father - his chosen human last name, Castellanos. Next to that, he also left a necklace with Primrose. One in the form of a small planet - representing Krypton.

As Primrose only grew up with her mother, she never cared much for her father. Of course, when she was young Primrose never really understood why she only had one parent and all of the other kids had two (though that would change quickly as well). But once she was old enough to understand, Primrose decided that her father hadn't even bothered to stay for their family. If he liked Krypton so much better, then he was probably happy there - in the same way Primrose and her mother were happy over here, on Earth. They lived in a good neighbourhood in New York, Marie had a great job, and Primrose loved going to school.

Primrose absolutely loved school. She loved studying and learning all kinds of new things. Primrose's hobbies were definitely reading and researching. She was... kind of a nerd you could say. But not the one that was obsessed with comic books or fantasy books or movies (one of her future siblings would be like that) - but the kind that loved reading books about physics and understanding technology. Next to that, Primrose also loved going outside and training. From that age, Marie already knew that Primrose wasn't just going to be a normal teenager. She had some pretty serious ambitions as well as some different blood. Sometimes it made the mother slightly worried, wishing Tor-Da was still there to help her. But at most times, Marie just knew Primrose was going to make a change in the world.

Primrose was just 7 years old when her mother met someone new, Jesse Nygard. Marie didn't know she could ever love someone as much as Primrose's father, but well... she did. And only within a year, Marie Galanis became Marie Nygard. Primrose didn't mind at all. She had never really shown any signs of wanting or needing a father. In fact, at first, Primrose was kind of hesitant towards Jesse. But he immediately treated her like a little princess. He hadn't just married Marie because of his love for her, but because of his beautiful bond with Primrose as well. They weren't blood-related, but they might as well have been. He was always incredibly proud of her and would help her with all of her science projects and would be right in front of the row when she was presenting them.

Because of the great experience Jesse and Marie had with Primrose as their child, they realized they wanted more, together. So, when Primrose was 10 years old, her first sibling was born. Quickly three more followed and suddenly the house was filled with kids. A family of seven, but a happy one. Eating dinner together every night for the next 7 years. Because after those seven years, Primrose found a new place to spend her time.

Not because she had to leave or wanted to leave or felt like an outsider in her family (even if Primrose had another father, she belonged in the family just as much as all of her siblings did), but because Primrose got a letter at the age of sixteen, asking if she wanted to start studying at Metropolis University - a school for Metahumans. Everyone had always known this day would come. Primrose was still half-Kryptonian and she had shown quite some interesting skills (being able to run faster or lift things she shouldn't be able to lift). Primrose herself was a little bit hesitant about joining a school like this. But after her family tried to convince her with words such as "This is your chance to make a difference", "Here you'll learn all of the things you have always wanted to learn", and "Prim, you have superpowers, do something with them" - Primrose decided to go to MetU not too long after her seventeenth birthday.

There was only one thing Primrose was scared about, and that was to miss her family. So what idea did Jesse come up with? To all move toward Metropolis. Just like that, they left New York and moved to live closer to MetU so Primrose could still visit them at least every weekend (and partly because some of the other kids had started to show abilities of their own as well and Marie and Jesse were wondering if some others might end up getting a MetU letter too). That decision made Primrose decide something too. She was going to change her last name. She had been thinking about it for at least two years now. Castellanos just didn't feel right. She had wanted to keep it just for her mother, but now with everyone having the Nygard family and Primrose being so close to Jesse and her siblings, it just didn't feel right. Thus, she surprised Jesse - only a month before going to MetU - with her new passport. Saying: Primrose Tiye Nygard.
