On World of Metahumans we have quite some events. Some of those are competitions, such as the short story competition recently held by the Public Relations Team. The prompt for this short story was to write about your character meeting a DC character (as they don't actually live in the same universe). Here is the short story with which Mona Killian entered our competition (all credits go to her)!

-----------------

Mona had been walking for hours without any destination. She looked around and found herself standing in the middle of a bridge. She went to the side and leaned on the railing, staring at the river beneath her feet. She was all out of money and food and had no idea what to do now. She thought about selling some of her daggers but what if someone attacked her? How could she save herself without any weapons? "Maybe I can get a job" she thought to herself but it didn't take her long to realize how much of an stupid idea it was. She was a 14 years old homeless girl, why would anyone give her a job? She sighed and felt the tears filling her eyes. She was tired and scared and hungry, very hungry. She looked at a jewelry store nearby and had an idea. She knew it was a stupid idea but she was desperate. She looked inside her backpack and grabbed a hat to cover her hair and hopefully some of her face. She took out her daggers and looked at the way they shone in the moonlight. Hopefully if everything went well she wouldn't have to use them. She shoved them all in her belt and went towards the jewelry store. Breathing became harder with every step she took towards the store. When she got to the door she stopped for a minute and tried to calm down and then she stepped inside.

She was relieved to see that no one other than her and the jeweler, who was an old man who looked in his 70s, was there. The jeweler looked up and saw Mona enter and smiled "how can I help you?" Mona took out one of her daggers, her hand was shaking. "Give me your most expensive piece of jewelry and all of your money, NOW" The old man looked at the dagger and then looked at Mona calmly. "Listen, we both know you won't hurt me so..." but he didn't get to finish his sentence as Mona threw one of the daggers at him. The dagger hit the shelf right next to him and fell on the ground. The old man looked at the dagger, he didn't look calm anymore. "I said give them to me" Mona said angrily. The old man nodded and grabbed a necklace but before he could give it to Mona, she heard a sound from behind her and turned around. Standing behind her in his usual red attire, was the Flash.

Mona cursed her luck under her breath. Why would the Flash come here? Didn't he have more important things to do? She took out another dagger and held it in her sweaty hand, waiting for the Flash to arrest her. She knew she had no luck defeating him but the Flash just stood there, staring at her. "She is just a kid" he finally said. "I'm not a kid. Don't underestimate me" Mona snapped. The flash ignored her answer "Listen kid, I have more important things to do and I don't want to put a 12 years old in jail so why don't you tell me why you are doing this? Are you hungry? Is that it? Do you have a home? Come on I can help you." Mona could feel her blood boil "STOP CALLING ME A KID" she yelled at him "I'm not just a kid, I have super powers just like you." She saw a glass of water and concentrated on it. she tried to turn it into ice and hit the flash with it but all she could do was to pour some water on him. Apparently turning water into ice wasn't one of her powers. She grew even angrier but this time she was mad at herself, was this all she could do? She threw one of her daggers at the flash who easily managed to catch it. "Fine you gave me no choice but to arrest you." He said in a very annoyed voice. "You can't catch me" Mona said but she instantly regretted saying it. why would she say that to the fastest man on earth? How could she ever outrun him? Still she decided to run but before leaving she grabbed a bracelet from over the counter. The flash came after her but didn't bother to run. He was so confident that Mona wouldn't be able to get away that he wasn't even trying hard to catch her. then Mona had a brilliant idea. She went over the bridge and looked back to see the flash getting closer. When the Flash realized what Mona was about to do he started to run but it was too late. Mona jumped into the water and went as deep as she could. She could breath underwater but the Flash couldn't which meant he couldn't get her. "Perhaps he shouldn't have underestimated me" she thought to herself and smiled, holding the bracelet tight in her hands.
