Maya stands there shock still fury pumping through her veins at the situation she now found herself in. "I'm sorry ladies, I need to speak with the Battalion Chief who I have just spotted, I'll leave you two to get to know each other." Felix says before turning to Maya "Maybe you can take Carina over to the team and introduce her? I'll be there shortly." He says.
Maya offers a tight smile and curt nod, which he seems happy enough with before wandering off to go and speak with the Chief.
Maya harshly grabs Carina by the elbow before dragging her off to the side into a corner away from where anyone can see or hear them, spinning Carina round into the wall with a thud she doesn't bother to apologise for Maya spits "YOU FUCKING KNEW WHO I WAS... WHO I WAS TO YOUR HUSBAND?!" Maya's tone accusatory rather than inquisitive suggesting she is speaking as a statement rather than a question.
Carina looks down and sighs "I didn't..." Maya scoffs at that as Carina follows up with "not at first. Not until after that first time..." She says.
"Oh so that makes it ok? Are you fucking serious! I might have been sort of ok with you being married, but that's when it was a nameless faceless stranger NOT MY FUCKING CAPTAIN." Maya hisses pure fury seeping out of her.
"Maya please, I'm sorry ok. I didn't know. Felix and I... We have been having some issues for a while now, and when the fire safety talks were going on, we weren't really communicating. I honestly sort of assumed you were from the other station. I thought that if it was his station at my school, he would have come himself, or at least said something. But he didn't not right away." She says.
Maya rolls her eyes, "you still knew there was a chance! And you were the one who pursued me! This is so fucked up Carina."
"I know, I know. I'm sorry I really am but by the time I knew... I didn't, I couldn't stop" Carina whispers her hand moving up to stroke Maya's cheek.
Maya catches her hand practically shoving it away "This is over Carina. You hear me? We are done." She doesn't let Carina respond simply walking off, content to spend the rest of the evening by the bar, and as far away from Carina as she can manage.
___
The weeks following the ball and the revelation of who Carina is married to, Maya had been miserable, at first she was miserable because as much as she wished she didn't and as much as she tried not to - she realised she missed Carina.
That thought alone she finds just as infuriating as the entire situation if not more! Why her? Of all the people she has hooked up with, why is Carina the one that she catches feelings for, the ONLY one she knew it wasn't ever an option. Maybe that's the problem she muses... forbidden fruit and all.
Yeah, that's it, these feelings, they aren't real they are a manifestation of her ability to self destruct, that she would of course let her mind want something she actively knew she couldn't. If Carina had been single she wouldn't have wanted more than one night... So all she has to do is ignore it. 'Ignore her, and these feelings will go away. Right?' She thinks to herself.
And that maybe should have been simple - delete and block her number. Job done right? Wrong. Not that she did that, but still it wouldn't have helped. Because Carina seemed determined to see her, and decided to do so by visiting the station and she had an excuse... HER HUSBAND.
So Carina started showing up at the station, casting longing gazes at Maya, finding herself needing to be just the other side of wherever Maya was, resulting in her 'brushing' past her in the beanery, at almost every opportunity.
She came bearing food for the team, which of course made her immensely popular, even without the charm and charisma she exudes in an annoyingly natural manner, and so yeah. The team were more than welcoming and always insistent she comes back soon.
