Epilogue

The Night Class had three new students as the fall semester started. Zero, Yori, and I all started studying at night along with the rest of the vampires. I'm glad to be following my new body's natural rhythm rather than trying to be awake during the day when my bones cry out to explore the night.

Since my father is the acting head of the Vampire Hunter's Association, he tasked some hunters that he trusted enough to do the night patrols. His new role had some perks. Zero and I are off the hook from that particular responsibility, which I find that I don't miss. Studying and being a normal student is much easier when you don't have to spend all your time being alert and watching for misdeeds.

That said, we're still keeping an eye on the Night Class students, especially those newer additions outside of our inner circle. But we have help from the rest of the inner circle to share that responsibility.

It means I can focus on my class work and not fall behind. Which is good because the Night Class curriculum is more intensive and I'm behind from the start because I don't know any vampire history. Luckily, I have many tutors available to me from our inner circle.

Kaname and Takuma keep me informed about the goings-on in the reformed Vampire Senate. There are still malcontents who resent the sudden change, but we're working on managing things day-by-day. Zero and my father report a similar situation in the Hunter's Association. Apparently, Zero rather enjoys working with my father and has a real knack for leadership. Who would have thought?

Hanabusa and Yori spend much of their free time researching the cure to vampirism...when they're not all over each other, that is. We tend to steer clear of the library these days.

The hollowness in Senri's eyes has slowly begun to go away with the faithful attention and care that Rima gives him. And I suspect that his additional role helping Takuma in the Senate helps give him a sense of purpose.

The other day, I saw Toga Yagari and Seiren embracing. I never would have thought the two of them would get together, but sometimes opposites attract.

Ruka and Akatsuki are as close as ever. Ruka has been helping me learn more about deportment and manners befitting pureblood royalty. She's slowly opening up more and more I'm glad to be able to call her my friend.

If you'd told me two years ago that I'd be a pureblood vampire princess, I would have thought you were crazy. Now, I'm focusing on being the best princess I can be and building a future of peace between our species.

I have the best people at my side and I'm certain we'll achieve it. Together.

Author's Note

This story has almost been a decade in the making. I started writing this one summer between school and then never fell back into a good rhythm to continue. I tried picking it back up a few times, but got consumed by doubts. Mostly around not knowing where the story was going. I realized recently that, as a creative writer, I don't need to know where the story is going. Stories flows out of me and that's how I work best. I let myself get back into that mindset I had almost 10 years ago of just writing and seeing what happens. This whole story is a first draft and I'm so grateful to you for reading it. Perhaps one day I'll come back and revise it. Fix all my tense (thanks for bearing with me experimenting with present tense!) and grammar mistakes. But I doubt it. I've been holding this guilt for never finishing this story after I'd poured so much into it. Now that I have, it's time for me to move on and write my own original works. I have so many ideas that I can't wait to share with the world!
