I stifle my sigh as I press my free hand to my forehead, my other hand occupied holding my phone to my ear. "Vi, I only just left."
"But you didn't say what time you're coming home," Vi sniffles, her voice sounding clogged with tears. "And I need help with my math homework."
"Cam can help you. He's way better than me at math, anyway," I suggest, my gaze watching the world fly by outside Larray's moving car. The sun has already set and the dark of night covers LA like a blanket, and if I squint really hard, I think I can make out a few stars amongst the overwhelming city lights.
"But he gets annoyed if I get upset," Vi wails. "And I'm very upset right now! I am going to fail my math test tomorrow!"
I suck in a deep breath, forcing my voice to take on a soothing tone. "Sweetie, I think you know more than you think. I studied with you after school, and Cam can help you now. And I promise he won't get upset with you. You just need to try to stay calm and focus on the work."
