I rush as I make sure to have my wallet and keys. "Thank you Aunt Rachel." I hug her before kissing the top of Blaze's head.
"Of course." Aunt Rachel smiles. "Be careful." She waves as I leave out the front door.
Two of the emergency doctors called out today and they are short on staff, so I was paged to come in. Short on sleep myself, I yawn lightly as the car parks in the doctors area. I rush into the hospital and change into my scrubs before getting a cup of coffee and the tablet as a doctor runs down the patient cases currently on our floor.
Hours pass and I work through many cases. As a doctor comes off his lunch break he pats my shoulder. "Your break, while the tests are still being ran. I will take on the new cases."
"Thanks." I nod and walk to the doctors area but see I forgot my lunch in the rush to leave the house. I grab my wallet from my locker and walk to find the cafeteria as I notice Aunt Rachel and Blaze walking to the door to the emergency room.
I rush out. "Are you both okay?" My eyes look over them and Aunt Rachel smiles.
"We are just fine. Stop stressing." She smiles. "We noticed you left your lunch and was coming to bring it to you. Though we got a little sidetracked before getting here, so I hope we didn't miss it."
"You didn't. Was just taking my lunch." I smile and Blaze holds my lunch box out. "Thank you. What had you sidetracked?"
"Puppies." Blaze beams and I smile before looking to Aunt Rachel.
"More rescue fur babies that will surprise Uncle Josh?" I tease her and she shakes her head.
"Not this time, but they were so stinking cute it wasn't funny. They were all spoken for though by time we pulled in but we still got to see them."
"I want a dog." Blaze sighs.
"Little man, neither of us have the time for a dog."
"What about a cat? Aunt Rachel said they don't have to be walked."
"No, but the cat would get lonely at the house all day when I am at work and you in school."
"Then we get two cats." Blaze smiles wide.
I laugh. "We will have to talk about that another time."
"O-tay." Blaze sighs loudly, making Aunt Rachel put her fingers to her lips to stop the laughter wanting to pour.
I walk with them over to some of the picnic tables that the community placed by a small play ground for children by the hosptial. Blaze sits in my lap as I begin to eat the pasta salad I had with some of the spare meats and vegetables from the food trays we took to the lake yesterday.
"Blaze told me all about your lake trip yesterday." Aunt Rachel smiles.
"And I am sure that before this little man told you, Uncle Josh told you that Stella was with us."
Aunt Rachel smirks and nods.
"We all had a fun day on the lake."
"Then Stella came to our house and watched a movie with us."
"She did?" Aunt Rachel places her chin in the palm of her hand while her elbow rested on the table.
I swallow a bit hard. "Blaze, you can go swing if you want."
"Really?"
I nod and he takes off to the swing set and begins swinging with ease to where I am able to see him. Aunt Rachel taps the table top and I look at her with a raised eyebrow as I finish my food.
"Blaze didn't mention that until now." She smiles. "Are things serious between you and Stella?"
I nod. "She is my girlfriend officially."
Aunt Rachel squeals lightly and holds her hands together.
"Thanks for bringing my lunch and locking up the house for me."
Aunt Rachel waves me off. "We enjoy watching Blaze."
"Where is your car?"
"Penelope dropped us off as she is getting ingredients for her and Blaze to make slim I think. She passed her test and got her license a couple days ago."
I smile and then watch Blaze swing some before I put things back into the cooler. Aunt Rachel's car pulls in and Penelope walks over.
"Get everything you were needing for this craft?" Aunt Rachel looks to Penelope.
"I did and even bought a large disposable table cloth to put on the floor." Penelope smiles.
"Congratulations on passing your driving test."
"Thank you." Penelope smiles. "I am so excited and in a couple months I will have a down payment for a older car too with the babysitting jobs I have picked up after school around the neighborhood."
"I am glad you got that table cloth." Aunt Rachel sighs.
"The article says it will not stain anything but accidents happen but Mom you should've seen how excited Blaze got when I was telling him about how we could make our own slime to play with like they had on the commercial." Penelope laughs.
My tablet next to me makes noises and know from the noise, I know I am being called in. "I have to go." Aunt Rachel takes the lunch box as I stand.
"Be good Blaze!" I wave as I jog to the hosptial doors and see him wave back as I open the door and step inside during the rush.
I get to the main counter by the nurses just as I finish signing in and looking over the urgent results. "Alert the specialist please, this patient needs a consult from the orthopedic doctor." I frown as the MRI shows extensive damage to bones and muscles in the patients thigh.
"We have a new patient in room three, Doctor needed STAT." Is called over the little com from that room.
"Got it." Paxton races for the door as the doctor I called down comes from the elevator.
I go over the MRI results with the specialist and we walk to the patient room to give the results as well as the treatment options the specialist can do. I sign over the patient case and get called into a new room in between looking at results for other patients in the rooms I work over.
