AnneThe next day, during their break at the diner, Jenny found Anne sitting alone, staring blankly at her coffee.
Anne had another dream, a beautiful mess of words she didn't understand, leaving her exhausted. She and her imaginary sister dreamed, just like Anne with Jenny, about the perfect man. She was child then, but still the oldest one.
They used words like 'mate' and 'Alpha' and 'pack' again. Why was Lily so afraid to be 'mate' of the 'human?' Is there someone else to 'mate' other than with the 'human?'
Everything felt so real!
And so perfect.
Anne didn't know what to think, but she knew she couldn't tell it Doctor Rick. It was too weird, too mysterious, and too imaginary to be a lead for finding out who had harmed her.Jenny slid into the booth across from her. "Hey, I'm really sorry about ditching you at the costume party last night," she began, her voice soft with genuine remorse.
Anne looked up, her expression a mix of hurt and frustration.
"Jenny, it wasn't okay," she told her after a moment of silence. "I don't like big crowds, especially when I don't know anyone."
"I know, I know," Jenny said, nodding vigorously. "I promise, it won't happen again. I just got caught up, you know?"
Anne rolled her eyes, annoyed. "You always get caught up, Jenny. Sometimes it feels like you don't consider how these things affect others."Jenny didn't know about her night, her dreams, or the other mess, but Anne was sick with this kind of behavior.
Before she went to sleep, she was in good spirits. She was happy, having been kissed for the very first time, and everything felt right. But then...
She dreamed, and her head hurt.
Jenny's face fell. "I really am sorry, Anne. I didn't mean to make you feel abandoned."
"That's good start," Anne softly smiled. "Apologizing and all. Do it again."
Jenny smiled and reached across the table to squeeze Anne's hand. "I am sorry, I won't do it again. Ditching, I mean."
"You won't," Anne nodded, but her smile fell as she glanced at the clock. She hadn't even finished her coffee, and her break was already over.
"Let's go back to the work," Jenny told her, glancing at the clock too.
"Actually," Anne sighed, "I have to go to the doctor today. In fact, right now."
Jenny arched her eyebrows. "Everything's alright?"
"Yeah," Anne gently smiled. "Just gynaecologist."
Doctor Rick wouldn't be thrilled to switch from psychiatrist to gynecologist, but who knows?"I see," Jenny grinned. "Caroline told me she saw you yesterday with some man," Jenny nodded knowingly. "Protection is important."
"What?" Anne frowned. "What protection?" But the minute the words were out, Anne started to blush.
"It's not like this," she stammered, her face turning red. "He is just a friend. And who is Caroline?"
"She is a friend of some other friend, but don't change the topic," Jenny grinned. "Caroline told me he's really handsome," she continued. "And has dark hair..."
"Yeah," Anne nodded. "He is and has. Peter is the owner of the shelter. 'Homies for doggies,' you know."
"It's a horrible name for the shelter," Jenny made a face. "But Peter, huh? Let's see," she mused. "Peter and Anne... Panne! It's perfect!"Anne rolled her eyes. "Panne? Seriously, Jenny?"
Jenny laughed, nudging her friend. "Come on, it's cute!"
Anne sighed, glancing at the clock again. "I really need to go."
"Alright, alright," Jenny smirked. "But I want all the details later. And remember, protection is important!" she teased.
Anne shook her head, still blushing as she grabbed her bag and headed out to her session.
"So, Anne, how have you been since our last session? Is everything good?" Doctor's Rick's voice was gentle, but probing.
