A year later...
The Relish Organization was doing better than it was a year before...before everything happened.
Right now I was down at HQ listening to them go on about these weird occurrences going on in some dry state area where lighting has been striking the same spot for two weeks straight.
"What do we do, Devlin?"
Writing in a small notepad with an inked pen, I looked up looking at the men's faces, "Any possessions? Curses involved?" The men looked at me clearing their throat, "Well, that's why we brought you down here, for you to see if it's either one..." I nod, closing the notepad, getting up excusing myself.
Yerlin basically running these old men in circles, gets my car pulled around to the front and salutes me while smoking a cigarette.
"Thanks," I grab the keys from the young intern that he's mentoring this month and get in going home to do research.
Starting the car, I place my hands on the steering wheel, taking a moment to take a deep breath in then out.
"It's nothing...don't get your hopes up," I tell myself as my mind goes straight to the impossible....the possibility it could be—Linus calls my phone as it's in the cup holder of the car, forgetting I left it there.
Answering, I sighed, "Hey," Closing my eyes I shook my head hating myself for the wild thoughts swimming around in my head.
"Want me to cook tonight? Or are you going to be doing research late in the ballroom office?"
Opening my eyes, I look at the rare view then down at the steering wheel, "Ye-Yeah go ahead, I'll try not to take up the whole night looking into the new case."
After a few minutes we hung up and I made my way to the house. Parking, I took a few minutes before I was able to go in fully, laying my forehead on the steering wheel.
What if this is something? What if this is what I've been hoping for...wishing?
Linus comes out from starting the food with a dish rag wiping his hands then pushing his hair back.
Turning the car off completely, I get out and he wraps his arms around me.
"Yerlin left the rest of the coordinates and whatever else you need," He says softly while now kissing the top of my head.
Nodding, I go inside, smelling the ricotta pasta on the stove with a fresh bottle of wine opened on the counter.
"I'm going to shower then I'll be right out!" I shout to him then go into my bedroom, straight to the bathroom closing the door leaning against it taking my shoes off and tossing it to the side.
Sliding my clothing off, I turn the shower on, tying my hair into a ponytail before getting in.
A light soft touch was felt on my shoulder, when I turned, nothing was there. My heart quickened, scared but hoping for Nolan. Taking a few breaths, I shook my head, "Don't do it Devlin," I whisper out now standing in the shower letting the water hit my body, making sure it didn't wet my hair. "Love..." A faint voice says. Stopping mid way, I turned then opened the shower curtain to see just my towel on the towel rod. Frustrated at myself, I close the curtain angrily hearing the rings scrape against the shower curtain metal.
Taking a few more minutes to wash up, Linus knocks on the bathroom door just to see if I'm alright.
"Hey, I left your food on your office table, didn't want you to stress yourself out about not starting your work right away."
