Chapter 13: ConfessionAanya's POV
The sun had dipped below the horizon, casting shadows across Aanya's modest apartment. She had been working late into the evening, her mind tangled with the complexities of the investigation and the shifting dynamics of her relationship with Rohan. The stress was palpable, and she found herself unable to focus on the case files scattered across her desk.
She sighed, rubbing her temples. Her phone buzzed with a message from Neha, asking if she wanted to join her for a quick dinner. Aanya considered the offer but realized she needed to sort through her thoughts first. She decided to order some takeout instead, hoping the small distraction would help clear her mind.
As she waited for her food, the doorbell rang, signaling its arrival. After retrieving the bag from the delivery person, she sat down at the kitchen table, staring blankly at the container of food. She was lost in thought when her phone rang again. This time, it was a call from Rohan.
She hesitated before answering, her heart racing as she saw his name on the screen. Hello, Rohan she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Aanya, he said, his voice carrying a hint of urgency. Are you free to talk? I need to discuss something important.
Aanya glanced at the clock. I was just about to eat, but sure, what's up?
Can I come over? I think it's better if we talk in person, Rohan said. His tone was serious, and Aanya sensed the weight of his words.
Alright, she replied, her curiosity piqued.
Aanya put her phone down and tried to calm her nerves as she ate her dinner. The conversation with Rohan was bound to be intense, and she wanted to be prepared for whatever he had to say.
-----Rohan hung up the phone, feeling a mix of determination and anxiety. He had been grappling with his feelings and the pressure of the investigation. The conversation with Aanya was something he had been dreading and looking forward to in equal measure.
He decided to drive over to her apartment, needing to talk face-to-face. The drive was short, but it gave him time to collect his thoughts. As he parked and walked to her building, he was struck by the contrast between the bustling city outside and the quiet, personal space he was about to enter.
When he arrived at Aanya's door, he took a deep breath before knocking. The door opened, and Aanya greeted him with a hesitant smile.
"Come in," she said, stepping aside to let him enter.
Rohan walked in, taking in the cozy yet cluttered space. Aanya led him to the living area, where he noticed the takeout containers on the table. She had clearly been working hard.
"Would you like something to drink?" Aanya asked, trying to make the atmosphere more comfortable.
"No, I'm fine," Rohan replied. "I just wanted to talk."
They both sat down, the air thick with unspoken words. Rohan shifted in his seat, trying to find the right words. "Aanya, I've been thinking a lot about us and the investigation. I know things have been complicated, and I feel like we need to address it directly."
Aanya looked at him, her eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and apprehension. "I agree. The case is taking a toll on both of us, and it's affecting how we interact."
Rohan nodded, his gaze intense. "It's not just the case. It's you and me. I've been trying to keep my feelings in check, but it's becoming harder. I care about you more than I expected, and it's confusing."
Aanya's heart pounded. She had been feeling the same way but had struggled to admit it. "I've been feeling the same, Rohan. This case has brought us close, and it's hard to separate our personal feelings from the professional ones."
Rohan leaned forward, his voice softening. "I don't want to make things more difficult, but I can't ignore how I feel. I'm attracted to you, and it's more than just physical. There's something real here, something I can't ignore."And it's driving me crazy trying to ignore it."
Aanya's breath caught in her throat. She had been holding back her emotions, afraid of the consequences. "I feel the same way. It's been building up, and I can't deny it anymore. But what do we do with this? But I'm scared. This could complicate everything, and I don't know how to manage it."
Rohan stood up and closed the distance between them. His hands reached for her face, his touch sending a shiver through her. "Aanya," he said softly, his eyes locking onto hers, "I don't have all the answers. But I need to be honest with you about how I feel."
Aanya's hands instinctively moved to his chest, her fingers gripping his shirt as she looked up at him. The intensity of the moment was overwhelming. Rohan leaned in, his breath warm against her skin. Their lips met in a kiss that started tenderly but quickly escalated into something more fervent.
The kiss was filled with urgency and longing, as if they were both trying to convey everything they couldn't put into words. Aanya's hands moved to Rohan's neck, pulling him closer as their kiss deepened. The world outside seemed to disappear, leaving only the electric connection between them.
When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless, their faces flushed. Rohan rested his forehead against hers, his gaze intense and searching.
"Aanya," he said quietly, "I need to know that we can make this work. I can't ignore how I feel, and I don't want to lose what we have."
Aanya's heart was racing, but she looked into his eyes with determination. "I feel the same way, Rohan. Let's try to figure this out together, even if it's difficult."
