Valentines Day 1993After weeks of continuous storming, the sun finally fought its way to victory over the cloudy skies. Bambi was thankful for the warming weather, nothing was allowed to get her down. Despite the late Quidditch practice the night before, Bambi found herself in a better mood than she had since Christmas.
She strolled into the Great Hall with a pep in her step, only a bit taken aback by the copious decorations the Professors had put into the room. The walls were covered with large pink flowers, and instead of the usual candles floating above, little red hearts and confetti were swirling down from the pale blue ceiling.
"Wow... this is a lot," Bambi said, sitting down next to Alicia and Angelina.
"Lockhart's idea I heard," Angelina giggled, pointing over to the head table, where Lockhart sat with a huge grin, wearing ridiculous vibrant pink robes. On either side of him sat the other stony-faced Professors. Snape was angrily picking heart-shaped confetti from his long greasy hair.
"Ah-" Bambi suppressed a laugh. Despite her newfound loathing for the Professor, she did enjoy seeing, at least, she wasn't the only one who shared ill feelings toward him.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" Lockhart shouted. "And may I thank the forty-six people who have so far sent me cards! Yes, I have taken the liberty of arranging this little surprise for you all– and it doesn't end here!"
With a dramatic clap, Lockhart signaled the entrance hall doors to open. A dozen surly-looking dwarfs marched in, their grim expressions contrasting sharply with their golden, shimmering wings and tiny harps.
"Why are they dressed like that...?" Bambi whispered to her friends, her eyes wide as the dwarfs paraded in.
"My friendly, card-carrying cupids!" beamed Lockhart. "They will be roving around the school today delivering your valentines! And the fun doesn't stop here! I'm sure my colleagues will want to enter into the spirit of the occasion! Why not ask Professor Snape to show you how to whip up a Love Potion? And, while you're at it, Professor Flitwick knows more about Entrancing Enchantments than any wizard I've ever met, the sly dog!"
Bambi took a sip of her coffee to stifle her laughter. The twins were barely containing their snickers, pounding their fists on the table. Angelina shook her head in disbelief, while Alicia fanned her face, clearly the only one not overwhelmingly amused.
Professor Flitwick buried his face in his hands, clearly mortified. Meanwhile, Snape's expression darkened ominously, as though he'd be more inclined to poison anyone who dared ask him about such a potion.
"Bambi!" Oliver sat sideways on the bench, facing her, "Happy Valentine's Day." He had an eager look on his face.
"Oh, hey Oliver," Bambi smiled, "Out flying again?" She straightened a strand of his wind-blown hair.
"Guilty as charged," he admitted with a chuckle, running a hand through his hair and making it fluff out again. "I was actually hoping to ask you if you'd like to join me for a trip to Hogsmeade this afternoon, after classes."
"That sounds lovely, I'd like that." She grinned.
Oliver's smile broadened, clearly pleased, "Great! I'll meet you by the entrance hall then. Can't wait."
He stood, giving her a quick peck on the cheek before grabbing some toast and leaving with a wave.
"Nice to see at least one of us won't be all alone on Valentine's Day," Alicia sighed, resting her chin in her arms with a dramatic pout.
"Cheer up, Lee," Lee said, flashing a charming grin, "I'll take you out."
Alicia shot him a skeptical look, "Not happening."
