Since Laurel didn't want anyone else to find out about her surprising sonic cry until she found out where it came from, she did her best to limp away from the wreckage on the attempt on her life before the police or ambulances could arrive, since there was only one person she trusted to patch her up right now and thankfully, she found a nearby payphone and managed to pull enough change out of her purse to use it, despite the glass shards in her side and the pain in her back from hitting that wall when her car exploded, she managed to dial the number and get the person to come pick her up before she blacked out.

When she came too, she found her friend Abby Sawyer looking down at her as she realized she was now laying on her friend's couch as Abby took off her gloves.

"Welcome back to the land of the living love." Abby said, since while she lived in Star City now, she'd been born and raised in England, so she had a British accent.

"Thanks for picking me up and patching me up. I did not need a bunch of doctors looking at me right now." Laurel said.

"I called your dad and your sister to let them know that you were here, since you asked me to meet you at CNRI in case something happened and that I got you patched up, since there wasn't time to get you to a hospital. Jasmine is fine with your mom now while your dad and sister are both looking into the ambush. I told them I'd call them when you were awake, since I did not need them crowding you while I was working, especially since I had to improvise to remove the glass shards and stitch you up." Abby said, referring to the bloody medical tools that were on a tool on her coffee table.

"Thank you for that again by the way." Laurel said.

"No problem. Not the first time I've had to operate on someone in my own home just because we both know how the Glades are. Not to mention it's the only time I get to feel like a doctor again since that bastard got my license revoked." Abby said angrily.

"I know, Dr. Blossom. I promise we're gonna get him." Laurel said, since Dr. Cyrus Blossom had attempted to sexually assault Abby a few months ago and while she'd resisted, in order to keep her from exposing him, Blossom had also had her medical license revoked and discredited, though it didn't help that while Abby was trying to escape him, she'd broken his nose.

"I appreciate that, but now, before I call your family and tell them they can come here, I think you should tell me what really happened, since now that I'm no longer legally a doctor, I have no obligation to tell them." Abby said.

"You got anything to drink, cause we're gonna need them." Laurel said and Abby chuckled as she handed Laurel a glass full of some drink.

"Since I've been bartending since I was kicked out of the medical bar, I've gotten rather good at mixing drinks." Abby said, though she was clearly displeased about that.

"I know you're supposed to be a doctor, but damn, you're one hell of a bartender." Laurel said as she sipped her drink, since it was one of the best ones she'd ever had.

"Thanks. It'll help you with the pain, though I am prescribing you painkillers and bedrest for a few days so you don't tear your stitches. Though remind me to thank your fiance for letting me be a doctor at his clinic. Now spill." Abby said as Laurel told her the full story.

"Wait, so you somehow got this sonic scream power and that's how you survived?" Abby asked.

"Yeah and I have no idea where it came from and I'm surprised you believe me so easily." Laurel said.

"We live in a world of aliens and metahumans, so it's not that hard to believe. Besides, you've heard of the Black Canary right?" Abby asked.

"What?" Laurel asked.

"Right, I guess being the daughter of a cop, your father wouldn't want to advertise that to you. The Black Canary was basically Star City's version of Batman about 25 or 30 years ago. A blonde woman in black leather who had a sonic scream or as they called it, a canary cry, who was basically the only real form of justice the Glades had. Then she vanished without a trace." Abby said.

"Really." Laurel said, since she was surprised that neither she or Oliver had ever heard that story, it did start to give her ideas. Ideas that Oliver would not approve of, but she knew that she had to do it.

"Well, I can't deny that Star City could use a new vigilante." Laurel said.

"Actually, if the rumors I've heard are true, we already do. Some archer in green. I wonder if he'll end up calling himself Green Arrow or something like that." Abby said.

"Green Arrow. Huh, that's catchy." Laurel said, making a note to recommend that name to Oliver, since it was catchy.

But before they could continue talking, there was a knock on the door and when Abby went to open it, she found Laurel's mother, Dinah Lance, holding her daughter, waiting.

"Is she awake?" Dinah asked and Abby nodded as she led Dinah inside.

"Mom, what are you doing here?" Laurel asked as she tried to sit up, only to have Abby stop her.

"Not so fast, you don't want to tear your stitches. I've already called Oliver who's on his way back from Gotham now." Abby said.

"Anyways, I'm here because after I heard about the crime scene and everything that happened, I realized that it's time we had a very important conversation. One I was hoping we'd never have to have." Dinah said.

"What are you talking about?" Laurel asked.

"Laurel, I know that you have the Canary Cry and the reason I know that is because you inherited it from me, just like how I inherited it from my mother." Dinah said, shocking both of the other women in the room.

"Uh Abby, can you please watch Jasmine while my mom and I have a very important talk." Laurel said and Abby nodded as she took her goddaughter from Dinah and left the room.

"Okay, let's start from the beginning." Dinah said.

Abby Sawyer is played by Elizabeth Henstridge in this series.
