Ozpin, much like James, looked out the window of his office in beacon, overlooking the city of Vale. Down on the streets, the headmaster could see member of the Vale rangers patrolling the streets alongside huntsmen and Vale police, their black and red uniforms making them easy to recognise.
The Vale rangers were the closest thing Vale had to a military. With the Royal army itself dissolved after the great war, the Rangers were simply formed to act as main line of defence. However, due to the surprising peace that followed the war, the rangers were severely underfunded, to the point that they really just served as police auxiliary forces.
This changed after the battle of Vale. The rangers leader, marshall dimitri Malinov, was able to convince the Vale council to provide more funding, especially once it was shown that the Vale rangers helped to blunt a grimm attack from the north in the commercial district. Now, rangers were on the same level of authority as the huntsmen.
Ozpin didn't hate the Rangers, and respected their actions, but he wasn't the biggest fan of them either. More accurately, he wasn't a fan of Marshall Malinov. He wasn't a cruel man by any means: he was a true patriot and Vale nationalist, the descendant of a great was hero who genuinely wanted the best for his kingdom. Ozpin just didn't agree with his more militaristic views
Nevertheless, recent events had made it clear that the new and improved vale rangers were here to stay, and it wasn't really a bad thing. So ozpin let his rivalry with dimitri take a back seat.
As ozpin turned to approach his desk, however, he felt an ominous presence behind him. Turning around, he was shocked to see none other than Salem starting right at him
"hello, ozpin"
The two Republic sentinals flanking ozpin drew their weapons. Wearing armour blue and white armour reminiscent of the senate guard and wielding blue lightsaber pikes, the Republic sentinals were elite clones drawn from the ranks of the coruscant guard, responsible for protecting political figures.
"Salem" ozpin replied as the sentinals closed in on the woman. "I figured you'd be too busy creating new monstrosities."
"oh, save the jokes ozpin." Salem said, ignorant the soldiers. "I am simply here to tell you... You win."
Ozpin, confused, ordered the sentinals to stand down.
"go on." he said.
"with the arrival of this galactic Republic, I have realised that remnant is simply not the place I wish to reside. With the help of an... Associate, I was able to locate a planet I wish to go to, and the transport to get their."
To say ozpin was stunned would be the understatement of his thousand-year lifespan.
"so that's it?" he asked. "after all this, all the centuries spent fighting...your just done?"
"oh, make no mistake, I still loathe humanity." Salem retorted. "grimm will still remain on remnant. However, with me gone, their ability to regrow will be limited. I trust you can do the math."
With the discussion seemingly over, Salem formed a portal leading back to the grimm lands.
"I bid you farewell, ozpin." she said. "may never see each other again."
Before she could leave however, ozpin briefly stopped her.
"Salem." he said regretfully. "I'm sorry... For everything..."
Salem turned back to the headmaster, a sympathetic smile adoring her face.
"I know..."
With that, she head through the portal, likely never to be seen by ozpin or the people of remnant again.
Ozpin sighed, before turning to the sentinals.
"you will not speak a word of this to anyone." he told them. "not even tarkin. Am I clear?"
The sentinals simply nodded.
Satisfied with the answer he got, ozpin sat at his desk to continue doing paperwork. However, he felt as though a weight had been lifted off his chest. Not every threat to remnant was gone, but a big one was. And he had managed to apologise to someone he had been meaning to for centuries...

Meanwhile, in the grimm lands, Salem arrived to see a shuttle landing before her. As the door opened, she turned to see her last two subordinates, Hazel and Watts, leaving the ship.
"alright mistress." Watts stated. "the ship is primed and ready for departure."
"just hurry up." Hazel yelled. "the damn bot controlling this thing is getting on my nerves."
Salem gave a light chuckle. In truth, she was going to miss their antics.
As she boarded the shuttle and the doors shut behind her, Salem could feel the ship rise into the air. Checking the controls, she found the droid Hazel mentioned, as well as the destination the shuttle was set for...
A planet known as dathomir.
(note, sorry to those of you who wanted to see Salem in this story, but I didn't really have a good idea on how to include her and ideas like making Salem a sith lord just kinda sunk. There may be future chapters that show what happen to her, but for now, this is all I have.)
