Reo was never one to get annoyed or angered easily. At school, he had the reputation of being calm and collected, as well as perfect, traits that endeared him to many. It wasn't that he was naturally that way—he just felt he had to be nice to get what he wanted. Despite the front he put on, he found a certain satisfaction in keeping people at arm's length. But everything changed the day Y/N walked into their classroom.

She was the new girl, a bright and smiling presence amidst the sea of familiar faces. She was a year younger than everyone else, having been moved up a grade due to her smarts. Reo's initial reaction was curiosity, quickly overshadowed by irritation.

His best friend, Nagi, seemed fascinated by her, especially after she said she played Genshin. They bonded over shared interests and quickly became inseparable. Reo, feeling left out and somewhat threatened, found a target for his daily irritations—Y/N.

Every day, Reo would come up with a new way to needle her. He'd trip her in the hallways, hide her books, or make sarcastic remarks about her newness. Each time, Y/N would merely smile, her eyes twinkling with an almost serene confidence. Her indifference only seemed to fuel Reo's relentless teasing.

He only ever did it when no one was looking, so as to protect his image, his status as perfect. Only Y/N knew what he did. Occasionally, Nagi would catch him, but it was never serious enough for him to scold Reo over it. Either that, or he was too lazy.

One afternoon, as Y/N was quietly reading a book in the library, Reo cornered her with a mocking grin. "Hey, dumbass, still pretending to be smart?" he taunted.

Y/N looked up, her smile unwavering. "Just enjoying a good book, Reo. Want to join me?"

The unexpected kindness in her offer made Reo falter. "What? No! You're so annoying...tch."

He quickly recovered, scoffing as he walked away. His behavior continued to escalate, and though Nagi tried to mediate eventually, the strain on their friendship was evident. Reo's jealousy was turning into a tangible rift between them.

Then, one day, Y/N announced she was moving away. The news felt like a punch to Reo's gut. Despite his behavior, he felt a pang of regret and an odd sense of loss. He felt it in his chest, his beating heart had almost now stopped, as Y/N was no longer there to make it beat. He had realized too late what it meant.

Nagi tried to comfort Reo, even though he had no idea why Reo was so distraught, even more so than himself. The damage, however, was done, and it could have be fixed. Y/N left, and the school returned to its monotonous routine.

Years passed. Reo had grown up, matured, and found a new routine. He was a college student now, a freshman to be exact. He found his new school refreshing and enjoyable, but also slightly melancholy. Reo was reminded of Y/N every time he walked through the doors, being the new kid and knowing no one.

He now worked for his Dad, the owner of a prestigious coffee shop. It was a safe space for him, a place where he enjoyed the simplicity of making coffee and chatting with regulars. One ordinary day, while pouring a cappuccino, he glanced up and froze.

There, standing at the counter, was Y/N.

Her face had changed slightly with age, her eyes more striking and her hair flowing like water, beautifully cascading down her shoulder. Her smile was the only thing that hadn't changed, it being as radiant as ever. Reo's heart raced. He tried to focus on his task, but the tremor in his hands betrayed his nerves.
