Lan Zhan sat at the small café table, feeling his heart pound as the minutes ticked by. He'd gotten there about ten minutes earlier, sipping on a latte while his heart raced with excitement and nerves. Wuxian had texted him earlier, asking to meet after class, and he couldn't help but wonder if this was finally it .....their first date. It has just been 3 days after his confession and the idea of getting to spend sometime alone with him stirred up all the feelings he'd been struggling to hide.
The door chimed, and in walked Wuxian, the same bright smile on his face that always make Zhan's heart do a flip. Wuxian was dressed casually, but somehow he made everything look effortlessly stylish. Zhan's pulse quickened, and he tried to calm the butterflies in his stomach. His breath caught in his throat, and for a brief second, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to speak without his voice giving him away.
Wuxian slid into the seat across from him, his grin playful. "Lan Zhan, did you wait long?"
"No," Lan Zhan replied, trying to keep his tone calm despite his nerves. "Not so long, just a few minutes."
Wuxian chuckled, "Good! I didn't want to keep you waiting." He reached across the table, lightly brushing Zhan's hand. "You seem nervous, relax, it's just me."
Lan Zhan blushed faintly, glancing down at his coffee. "I'm.... not nervous."
"Hmm, sure you're not," Wuxian teased, his voice softening.
Zhan felt the heat rise to his cheeks, blushing harder now "N-no, I'm fine... I just didn't expect...."
"Didn't expect what?" Wuxian leaned in, his eyes twinkling with playful curiosity.
Zhan swallowed hard, his eyes again on his coffee. "I... I didn't expect you to ask me out like this."
Wuxian's grin widened. "Like this? So, you were thinking this is a date?"
Zhan glanced away, embarrassed. "Maybe... I mean, it kind of feels.... like one."
Wuxian laughed softly, enjoying Zhan's shyness. "Well, I'm glad it does. I wanted to spend some time with you. No Kexing or Zishu around, just the two of us."
Lan Zhan swallowed, a flutter in his chest. The way Wuxian said it, made his pulse race.
As they chatted, Wuxian kept the mood light, joking about the events at school, teasing Lan Zhan whenever he noticed him getting flustered. Despite the initial tension, Zhan gradually relaxed, finding himself smiling more and even laughing at Wuxian's easy humor, his nervousness melting away under his warmth and charm.
Then, as the conversation lulled, Wuxian glanced at him with a softer expression. "You know, A-Zhan... I really like spending time with you."
Lan Zhan froze, unsure how to respond. His heart pounded louder in his ears. Was this the moment?
Before he could find his words, Wuxian's hand placed on his lightly on the table, "If you've got something on your mind, you can tell me. No need to keep it in."
Lan Zhan's breath hitched. He looked at Wuxian, eyes wide with hesitation. "I... I didn't expect this. Us, like this."
Wuxian laughed softly. "I wanted to spend some time with you. And I think... maybe it could be more, if you want it to be."
Lan Zhan blinked, taken aback by how easily Wuxian said it, like it wasn't a big deal at all. But to him, it felt huge. He glanced down at their hands, still touching, and swallowed hard. "I've... liked you for a long time. But I didn't know how to tell you."
Wuxian's smile softened. "You didn't have to say anything. I already knew when I saw you the first time."
Lan Zhan looked up at him, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You knew?"
