A few days had passed. Raven hadn't dared to leave the compound for anything other than food just yet—and it was always accompanied, afraid that she'd be found and captured by Hydra. She had a gut feeling they were still looking for her, even though Natasha had leaked all of their encrypted information into the world, took them down and sent the remainder into hiding, she still had an inkling that perhaps she wasn't safe just yet.
She was sitting in the viewing gallery of the training room, watching as Bucky and Steve sparred with one another. Even though her eyes were glued to the men in front of her, her mind wandered elsewhere.
She remembered how quickly her body was deteriorating. She was getting weaker. She was running out of excuses to get out of sparring with Bucky, too. She wondered how long she could keep it up, stay strong before she finally faded away. She should probably have told Bucky sooner, but now she figured it was too late. So, she continued to keep it to herself.
She hadn't spoken to Wanda or Clint yet, but she could guess that they would be better off without her here. Well, she thought. I'll be gone soon. You'll get what you want.
"There you are," she heard Natasha's voice come from the doorway.
Raven let out a yelp at the sudden appearance of a person. "You were looking for me?"
"Didn't mean to startle you, but yes, I have been looking for you," Natasha said as she stepped forward and took a seat by Raven's side. She smirked as she watched Steve throw Bucky to the floor. "Enjoying the show?"
Raven flushed. "N-no, I was just waiting for Bucky."
"I'm messing with you," Natasha chuckled. "I was looking for you because I promised you a few nights ago I'd take you to Wanda's room."
"Oh."
"I have some time now if you'd like to go," she suggested.
Raven hesitated and glanced back at Bucky, who was still wrestling Steve. She told herself it was time to handle her own mistakes, and not be relying on Bucky to follow her wherever she needed to go. So, she put on her big girl pants and agreed, "okay."
The two women stood up and left the viewing gallery, Raven following closely behind Natasha as she lead the two of them toward Wanda's bedroom.
"Why are you helping me?" Raven suddenly asked. "I mean...you're the only one in this compound other than James who has shown me even a little decency after that day."
Natasha's footsteps slowed, she tilted her head back to look at Raven, before turning back to face where she was going. She thought for a moment. "I see myself in you."
Raven stayed silent, waiting for Natasha to elaborate.
"Me and you, we're similar. I was in Hydra's captivity nearly my entire life until Clint found me during an incident in Budapest years ago. This is my home. I've found it amongst these people...and I want to help you find yours, I guess."
Raven nodded, though Natasha wouldn't have been able to see it because she was not looking at her.
They reached Wanda's room. Natasha knocked on the door.
"Come in," came an accented voice from inside. The door swung open gently, revealing Wanda and Vision cuddled on the mattress together, with the tv playing a movie.
Raven's anxiety spiked. She didn't know what to expect. Would Wanda hold the accident against her? Wanda pried her eyes away from the screen, her round brown eyes landing on Natasha, then to the figure behind her, Raven.
Whether or not Wanda was surprised by her appearance or not, Raven did not know. Wanda's face remained expressionless and straight. Undecipherable to the naked eye.
