PANIC

"Help! Somebody help me!" Bucky cried with her in his arms as he burst out of the elevator. It was barely nine in the evening, so why did it feel like no one was awake?

Steve was the first to react, his room door swinging open at full force. "What happened?" His eyes trailed from Bucky's flooded eyes to the limp, frail woman in his arms.

"I don't know! Just help her. Please," Bucky's words trailed off as his voice shook, fear and anxiety spiking in his heart as he tried to keep the tears at bay. I shouted at her. I blamed her. The voice repeated in his head.

I think I'm dying, James. This time, it was her voice that echoed in the recesses of his mind. The guilt was overwhelming. I think I'm dying...

"Get her to Banner," Natasha had arrived. Bucky hadn't even noticed, too caught up in his own worry. Steve started in the direction of the med-bay, wordlessly gesturing Bucky to follow. Banner sat hunched over a microscope in his lab, startled when two men burst into the premise in a panic.

Banner's attention was immediately shifted towards the unconscious woman in Bucky's arms, and went into crisis mode. He took full control of the room, spitting instructions at them with an authority Bucky hadn't known existed in the introverted soul.

"Set her down here. Nat, I need Tony." Natasha sped out of the room in search of the man. He then said to Steve: "prop her feet up with the pillow there, on the sofa. And get this mask over her face." The last instruction was delivered to Bucky, who was promptly tossed an oxygen mask while Banner strapped the oxygen tank to the leg of the table, and adjusted the air pressure. Bruce moved swiftly and deftly, knowing the layout of the lab like the back of his hand.

He clipped a heart rate monitor over her finger. "Heart rate's too high," he muttered under his breath. He started toward the refrigerator, which held a plethora of medicines, pills, and needles, and fished a small bottle out from the top shelf. He poked a needle through the vial, and drew a small dosage into the syringe, before injecting it into Raven's skin.

"This is a beta-blocker. It'll stop the adrenaline and slow her heart rate. Hopefully more blood can get to her brain and wake her up," he explained calmly to Bucky, who seemed to be having a minor panic attack at the sight of Raven's state. Steve kept a palm over his best friend's shoulder in an effort to comfort him.

Two minutes had past, her heart rate wasn't letting up. Tony had rushed into the room a moment ago, slightly panicked at the scene in front of him. Barnes and Rogers looked helpless, Banner was stood over the girl, taking her blood pressure and other vitals.

"What can I do?" Tony's voice was brimming with concern. All of a sudden, it was as if seeing her in that helpless state had resurfaced guilt for looking into her background. For not trusting her. She looked so weak.

"Nothing for now. I don't know why I called for you, actually." Banner leaned against a countertop, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"I make for pretty good moral support, Bruce. I'm glad you called me." Tony half-joked.

Vision and Wanda had arrived, intrigued by the sudden commotion. They hadn't spoken a single word though. Sam and Clint were out of town, both spending time with their families.

The team was sat in an awkward silence, tension wafting in the air. The only people Bucky knew for sure would be on his side were Steve, Natasha, and Sam. He didn't speak much to Tony. Wanda and Vision were in their own bubble most of the time, but they didn't seem so bad. He wondered how they'd interacted with Raven such that she'd become distrustful of them.

Bucky rested his gaze on his leather boots, letting out a worried sigh as his hand lay absentmindedly over her bony fingers.

That was when he noticed it.

A sliver of dark magenta pulsing on the ground. It was Raven's dark magic. His gaze followed the glowing trail, tracing it back up to her body. It seeped out of her skin like sweat, but it dripped down the examining table like maple syrup. He'd never seen her powers take such a state before. It had always been light and airy like Wanda's.

Startled, he jerked out of the chair he was sat in. Eyes glued to the floor as the magic continued to flow.

"What is this?" He mumbled under his breath. "Raven! Wake up! Can you hear me?" Bucky called frantically, in hopes that this oozing was a conscious action on her part. It was not.

"What's happening?" Steve asked, his face contorting in confusion.

"It's her magic. I don't know what's going on. I-I've never seen it so dark before." Bucky was equally confused himself. Then, his anger flared momentarily as he looked back up at Bruce. "What did you give her?"

"Nothing! I just gave her a shot to slow her heart rate. It was too fast, before."

"Well, it's only getting faster," Natasha said, nodding to the monitor at her side. Her heart was now beating at two hundred beats per minute. How could she still be alive? She should've had a heart attack by now.

The dark ooze started to spread. Faster this time. Like the blood vessels of a nervous system, Raven's dark magic had now engulfed the entire laboratory. The temperature rose rapidly. Her magic had always been hot to the touch, but now it felt like lava.

"Okay, everybody out!" Tony shouted as he ushered everyone in the direction of the door. Sweat started to bead at Bucky's forehead. He looked back at her unconscious state. He didn't want to leave her side. Everyone had already evacuated.

"Buck!" Steve exclaimed from outside.

Bucky finally conceded, exiting the lab in a slow jog. Everyone stared at the sight in reluctant awe. From outside the glass, it was undoubtedly a beautiful sight. Her magic resembled that of a galactic milky way. The way the light hit it seemed to make it glow like neon lights, illuminating the dim foyer of the penthouse floor.

It was beautiful.

"What do we do?" Bucky was the first to snap back into action, looking for a way to help her.

"I don't know. This is beyond my area of expertise," Banner stated matter of factly. "Never read a word about dark magic like that."

Natasha looked to Wanda. "Kid? You've got powers. What can we do?"

"I... I'm sorry. I don't know." Wanda said guiltily. She leaned into Vision as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

"Fuck," Bucky cursed under his breath. He couldn't help but blame himself. After all, he was the trigger.

"Dark magic, you say? I think I know who can help." Without another word, Tony sped off in search of his phone.
