Sarah felt her eyes trail to the floor, in fear of being watched, and let her scruffy black hair fall over her eyes. She wanted to get away. She wanted to be on her own. She needed to get away. Sarah didn't want to be at school at the moment. She wanted to be at home.
She hugged her school books closer to her chest, pushing her glasses up her nose and walking through the halls. No one looked at her as she walked past. No one saw the tears that had filled her eyes. No one saw, because no one cared.
This was a normal routine for Sarah Marie Black.
Just as Sarah was about to turn the corner, she saw her former best friend standing by her locker. Erica Reyes was Sarah's only friend at Beacon Hills High School, as the two had been outcasts and had been bullied to the point where their self-confidence had been ripped away from them. That was until Erica had suddenly been accepted into another crowd, with the current fugitive Isaac Lahey and Scott McCall and the older Derek Hale that Sarah had never even seen. Erica hadn't spoken to Sarah since she had suddenly changed her hair, her attitude and it seemed most of her personality had disappeared as well.
Erica's eyes met Sarah's, but all Sarah did was turn away, but kept walking down the same hallway. Sarah didn't want a confrontation, but it seemed Erica wasn't going to just let her walk passed.
"Sarah." Erica called, but knowing Sarah, she also knew her friend would ignore her. So she did the only thing she could think of, she grabbed her arm and pushed her against the lockers, causing Sarah to wince.
"What...?" Sarah began with her voice low and obviously terrified.
"What happened to you?" Erica whispered, smelling something different about Sarah. Erica always knew Sarah had health problems, but now she smelled more than sick.
"Nothing." Sarah insisted.
"Tell me." Erica growled.
"I'm dying," Sarah whispered, somehow knowing Erica would know if she was lying. "I have leukaemia."
Erica stared at her, sorrow in her eyes. Sarah was her best friend and was always there for her, even when no one else was. They were always there for one another. They grew up together. But Erica knew Sarah couldn't get involved with the supernatural world that Erica so willingly chose to become apart of, but maybe Sarah now had no choice.
"We need to find Derek."
"Derek? Derek Hale?"
"Trust me, Sarah," was all Erica said, before taking hold of Sarah's hand and dragging her out of the school without another word.
Before long, four days passed. Scott knew the moment he saw Erica with Sarah the next day that she had been given the offer. But he knew she hadn't said yes, because she still looked as sick as she was before. Erica said something to her friend, before they parted ways. Stiles, who had stood beside his best friend, took one look at Scott's face and turned away and walked into the school without turning back. Scott walked down the steps of the school, and towards the human girl that was leaning against her car.
Sarah had History first, but she knew she had a test and she hadn't had time to practice for it within the last four days. She was given an offer and she was seriously considering taking it.
"Your name's Sophie, right?" Scott asked as he approached her. She took a step back, but there was no fear in her eyes.
"No. It's Sarah, actually." She said with a strong voice.
Scott nodded, understanding by the look on her face that she knew exactly who and what he was. She looked very fragile, with her hair thick and a dark heavy black, her eyes a baby blue that looked almost sickly, and her skin only confirmed it. Scott knew she was sick, just by the sight, let alone the smell of her illness.
