The week rolled on with a relentless routine of classes and sniping sessions. Lexi's and Mattheo's Potions project was only one part of their Hogwarts experience, but it seemed to overshadow everything else.

In Charms class, Professor Flitwick was demonstrating the intricacies of the Cheering Charm. Lexi tried to focus on her wandwork, but Mattheo's usual seat at the back of the room was a constant source of distraction. He and Theodore Nott were whispering and chuckling, their faces illuminated by the flickering light of their wands.

Lexi couldn't help but glance over her shoulder, her patience thinning.

"Keep your eyes on your own charm, Yaxley," Mattheo said in a low voice, barely audible over the professor's instructions.

Lexi shot him a glare. "And keep your comments to yourself."

Mattheo smirked and whispered something to Theodore, who burst into a fit of laughter. Lexi turned back to her work, trying to ignore the growing frustration.

By lunchtime in the Great Hall, the atmosphere was a mixture of bustling students and the clatter of plates and cutlery. Lexi sat with Lorenzo and a few other Slytherins at their House table, her mood as sour as the weather outside.

"Did Mattheo do anything to provoke you today?" Lorenzo asked as he ladled some mashed potatoes onto his plate.

"Just the usual," Lexi replied, pushing her food around with her fork. "He and Nott were being their usual selves. I swear, sometimes I think they live to make my life miserable."

Lorenzo gave her a sympathetic look. "Just hang in there. Maybe he's just acting out because he's got his own problems."

"I'm not interested in his problems," Lexi said firmly. "I just want to get through this year without losing my mind."

Across the hall, Mattheo and Theodore were engaged in a loud discussion about their weekend plans. Mattheo's voice carried over the din of the Great Hall. "And then we're heading to The Three Broomsticks. I've heard there's a new drink that's supposed to be amazing."

The mention of Hogsmeade made Lexi's ears prick up. She tried to ignore the way Mattheo's comment had piqued her curiosity.

"You and your drinks," Theodore said, rolling his eyes. "What happened to just enjoying the butterbeer?"

"Sometimes you need a bit of excitement," Mattheo replied with a chuckle.

After lunch, Lexi trudged to Defense Against the Dark Arts, where Professor Lupin was introducing the class to Boggarts. Lexi's heart sank when she saw Mattheo and Theodore sauntering in behind her.

Lupin was explaining how to face a Boggart, and Lexi found herself gripping her wand tightly. She had never faced her Boggart in class, and she wasn't looking forward to it.

When it was finally Lexi's turn, she stepped up to the front of the room, trying to keep her fear in check. The wardrobe in the corner of the room creaked open, and a swirling mass of darkness emerged. Lexi's breath hitched; the suffocating blackness was a palpable force, pressing in on her.

She stumbled back, her heart racing. Mattheo's voice cut through the fear, though his tone was far from sympathetic. "Oh, look at that. The Dark is Lexi's biggest fear. How original."

Lexi's face burned with humiliation and anger. She struggled to regain her composure, casting her Boggart-Banishing Spell with a shaky wand. The darkness vanished, but her hands were still trembling as she returned to her seat.

"Are you done, or do you want to keep making a spectacle?" Mattheo called after her.

Lexi clenched her jaw, fighting the urge to snap back. She could feel her anger building, but she forced herself to focus on the lesson.

Later that week, a visit to Hogsmeade provided a rare opportunity for escape from the usual tensions. Lexi and Lorenzo wandered through the bustling streets, enjoying the crisp autumn air and the festive atmosphere. They stopped by Honeydukes, where Lorenzo eagerly loaded up on sweets.

Mattheo and Theodore were also in Hogsmeade, but Lexi made a point of avoiding them. They were at Zonko's Joke Shop, their loud laughter echoing through the store. Lexi's gaze flickered over to them, a mix of curiosity and irritation gnawing at her.

As they left Zonko's, Lexi's eyes caught Mattheo's for a brief moment. His expression was unreadable, but for a split second, she saw something other than his usual arrogance—something almost vulnerable.

"Stop staring," Lorenzo said, nudging her. "It's not worth it."

"I wasn't staring," Lexi protested, though she was more than a little unsettled by her own thoughts.

Back at Hogwarts, the days rolled on in much the same manner. In the library, Lexi and Mattheo occasionally found themselves in close proximity while searching for books. Lexi's irritation flared each time Mattheo's presence loomed too close.

One particularly annoying encounter occurred when Mattheo knocked over a stack of books she had just organized.

"Seriously?" Lexi said, trying to keep her voice low to avoid drawing attention from the librarian. "Can you not even be careful for once?"

Mattheo's eyes narrowed as he crouched to pick up the books. "Maybe if you didn't make everything so perfect, it wouldn't be so easy to mess up."

Lexi was about to retort when the librarian cleared her throat. "Quiet in the library, please."

Mattheo stood up, brushing off his robes. "Don't get your knickers in a twist. It's just a few books."

Lexi felt her frustration boil over, but she managed to take a deep breath. "Just stay out of my way, Riddle."

The tension between them was a constant, unshakable presence. Every interaction was tinged with underlying hostility, and both seemed to relish in pushing each other's buttons.

As the weekend approached, Lexi's nerves were frayed. The constant bickering and Mattheo's relentless provocations were wearing her thin. She knew she had to maintain her composure, but it was becoming increasingly difficult.

Mattheo's latest provocation came during a free period in the common room. Lexi was trying to finish an essay when Mattheo plopped down across from her, his expression one of exaggerated innocence.

"Need any help with that?" he asked, his voice dripping with mock sweetness.

Lexi shot him a withering look. "I don't need anything from you, Mattheo. Just leave me alone."

He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by her reaction. "Fine. But don't say I didn't offer."

As he walked away, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that their strained relationship was only going to get more complicated. The more they clashed, the more she found herself tangled in the complexity of her own emotions.

But for now, she was determined to keep her focus on her studies and maintain her dignity. She would deal with Mattheo's provocations and their growing tension one step at a time, no matter how challenging it might be.
