t was a bright morning in late spring, the sun casting a warm glow over the coast. Lexi Riddle stood in the kitchen of their cozy cottage, a place that felt like home in every sense. The aroma of freshly baked pastries filled the air, mingling with the sound of waves crashing against the shore just outside.

Their little cottage was a hidden gem, nestled among trees and overlooking the sea. It was everything Lexi had dreamed of-a sanctuary far removed from the shadows of their past. The decision to keep their family life private had been an easy one, especially with Mattheo's concerns about his father's influence.

"Mommy! Look!" A small voice piped up from the living room.

Lexi turned to see her son, Max, bounding in with a bright smile, his dark curls bouncing with each step. He had inherited Mattheo's striking features and cheeky demeanor, always getting into some kind of mischief.

"What is it, sweetheart?" Lexi asked, crouching down to his level.

Max held out a crumpled piece of paper proudly. "I drew a picture of you and Daddy!"

Lexi took the drawing, her heart swelling with love. The stick figures were recognizable enough-she could make out her long hair and Mattheo's signature curls. "It's perfect, Max! You're such a talented artist."

Max beamed, his dimples deepening just like his father's. "Can I show Daddy when he gets home?"

"Of course! I'm sure he'll love it." Lexi ruffled his hair affectionately, a familiar warmth spreading through her.

As she glanced at the clock, she felt a twinge of worry. Mattheo had been busy with work lately, often caught up in tasks that required his attention, but he always made time for his family, and Lexi knew that deep down he prioritized them above all else.

Just then, the sound of the door creaking open interrupted her thoughts. "I'm home!" Mattheo called out, his deep voice echoing through the cottage.

"Daddy!" Max shouted, racing to the entrance.

Lexi watched with a smile as Mattheo knelt to catch his son in an embrace, lifting him off the ground effortlessly. The sight warmed her heart-there was something incredibly endearing about watching Mattheo as a father. He had stepped into the role with the same passion he applied to everything in life, and the bond between them was undeniable.

"Hey, buddy! What have you been up to?" Mattheo asked, setting Max back on the floor.

"I drew a picture for you!" Max said, his excitement palpable.

"Did you? I can't wait to see it!" Mattheo replied, glancing over at Lexi with a playful smirk. "I hope it's better than last time."

"Hey!" Lexi feigned offense, crossing her arms dramatically. "That was a masterpiece!"

Max giggled as Mattheo rolled his eyes, joining in the laughter that filled the room. The happiness that enveloped them felt like a protective shield against the world outside.

After a quick family chat, Lexi excused herself to check on dinner, her mind racing with the joy of their little moments together. They were expecting a little girl soon, and the thought of welcoming another child filled her with anticipation.

"Lexi!" Mattheo called from the living room. "Max has a surprise for you!"

Curious, she wiped her hands on a dish towel and hurried into the room. Max stood proudly, a large piece of paper clutched in his hands.

"I made this for the baby!" he announced, presenting a colorful drawing of a family-two stick figures representing Mom and Dad, a little boy, and a baby with a smiley face.

Lexi knelt down. "It's beautiful"

Max beamed with pride, clearly thrilled by her reaction. "Can we hang it on the wall?"

"Absolutely," Lexi said, her heart full. "We'll make a special spot just for it."

As the evening wore on, they settled into a comfortable routine-dinner filled with laughter, stories, and shared dreams for the future. When the sun began to set, casting a golden hue through the cottage, Lexi felt a deep sense of contentment wash over her.

After tucking Max into bed, Lexi joined Mattheo in their bedroom. He was leaning against the doorframe, his expression thoughtful.

"Everything okay?" Lexi asked, sensing a shift in the atmosphere.

"Just thinking," he said softly, walking over to her. "About how far we've come. And how much I love this life we've built together."

Lexi smiled, feeling warmth bloom in her chest. "Me too. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Mattheo's eyes sparkled as he took her hands in his. "You know, I was terrified of becoming a father. But now, I can't imagine my life any other way."

"And you're amazing at it," Lexi reassured him, leaning in for a kiss. "Max adores you."

They shared a tender moment, the connection between them deepening as they navigated the intricacies of parenthood and partnership. Lexi could feel the excitement of what was to come-new memories to be made, challenges to face, and a future filled with love.

As they settled into bed, Lexi felt a sense of peace envelop her. Their journey had been filled with trials and triumphs, but they had emerged stronger and more connected. She closed her eyes, dreaming of the family they had built and the adventures that still lay ahead.

With Mattheo by her side, she knew they could face anything. And as she drifted off to sleep, she felt a surge of hope for all the beautiful moments still to come.
