The start of the new term brought a flurry of activity to Hogwarts. The holiday break had been a welcome respite, but as students settled back into their routines, the pressures of classes and exams quickly took over. For Lexi, it meant a renewed focus on her studies and a chance to put the mysterious gifts from Christmas out of her mind.

With the return of classes, Lexi found herself buried in assignments and practical work. She spent hours in the library, determined to stay on top of her workload and excel in her N.E.W.T.-level courses. The locket and bracelet, though still in the back of her mind, were pushed aside as she threw herself into her studies.

One crisp January morning, Lexi was walking to Potions class with Enzo. The castle was alive with the usual hustle and bustle, and students milled about, chatting and hurrying to their lessons.

Enzo glanced over at Lexi, who seemed lost in thought. "You've been really focused lately. Everything okay?"

Lexi looked up, blinking as she came back to the present. "Yeah, just trying to keep up with everything. The classes are getting tougher, and I want to stay on top of my game."

Enzo grinned. "You've got this. Just remember to take a break every now and then. Even the brightest witches need a breather."

Lexi chuckled. "I'll try. Thanks, Enzo."

As they entered the Potions classroom, Lexi took her usual seat, trying to ignore the tension that seemed to hang in the air whenever Mattheo was around. He was already seated with Theodore and a few other Slytherins, their usual air of arrogance evident.

Mattheo, as always, made no effort to hide his disdain for Lexi. As she sat down, he leaned back in his chair and shot her a mocking smile.

"Back to the grind, Yaxley?" Mattheo called out, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Hope you're ready for another grueling term."

Lexi narrowed her eyes but ignored him, focusing on the task at hand. Professor Slughorn entered, and the lesson began, providing a welcome distraction from Mattheo's taunts.

Throughout the class, Lexi and Mattheo exchanged the occasional glare, but neither of them made any effort to escalate their usual animosity. They were paired for a lab exercise, and their interactions remained as curt and terse as ever.

"Careful, Yaxley," Mattheo muttered as he handled a cauldron. "Wouldn't want to mess this up and ruin the entire potion."

Lexi shot him a sharp look. "I think we both know who's more likely to make a mistake here."

Mattheo raised an eyebrow but didn't respond. They continued working in silence, their mutual disdain evident in the tension between them.

Later that week, Lexi's focus remained firmly on her studies. She threw herself into her homework and preparations for upcoming exams, determined to excel despite the challenges. The library became her second home, and she spent hours poring over textbooks and notes.

Enzo joined her often, offering support and occasionally dragging her out for a much-needed break. They spent time in the common room, studying together or just chatting to relieve the pressure.

One evening, as Lexi was finishing up an essay on magical theory, Enzo leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"You've been working non-stop," he said, looking at her with concern. "Why don't we take a break? We could use some fresh air or maybe catch a game of wizard chess."

Lexi rubbed her eyes, feeling the strain of the intense study sessions. "I suppose a break wouldn't hurt. But just a short one—I need to finish this essay."

Enzo smiled. "Deal. We'll just stretch our legs and clear our heads."

They headed outside into the chilly night, walking along the grounds and enjoying the crisp air. The snow crunched underfoot, and the castle glowed warmly in the distance.

As they walked, Lexi found herself relaxing, the weight of her academic responsibilities momentarily lifted. She appreciated the simple pleasure of spending time with a friend and the break from the constant focus on her studies.

Back in the castle, Mattheo continued to make his presence known, though Lexi made a point of avoiding unnecessary interactions with him. Their paths crossed frequently in class and around the castle, but their interactions remained limited to curt exchanges and guarded glances.

The days rolled on, and while Lexi remained focused on her studies and maintaining her academic performance, the underlying tension with Mattheo persisted. The gifts remained an enigma, but Lexi decided to push them to the back of her mind, choosing instead to focus on her goals and the support of her friends.

As the new term progressed, Lexi's determination to succeed and her efforts to stay focused on her studies became her primary focus. The ongoing conflict with Mattheo was a challenge, but Lexi was resolute in her commitment to excel and make the most of her time at Hogwarts.
