Lantaya's POV (In the car...)
"How do you know Daniel?" I was now fully facing him ready to get on his ass if I heard any dumb shit.
He simply answered with a straight face. "I don't."
I was confused. "I don't get it..."
He checked the side mirrors before approaching a red light. "It's not the first time he called. Plus I let your little lie slide back there, I know you ignored his call." He looked at the phone in my lap then back at me.
He clocked me back in the restaurant. Shit.
"What do you mean 'it's not the first time he called'. Have you been on my phone?" I tilted my head to the side with my arms folded.
I swear if he says yes, imma jump this nigga.
"T, I'm a man Aight, I know defensive when I see it, And this- I used to do what you doing now." He pointed to the phone in my lap faced down.
I looked down seeing the habit I created and looked back up at him with no words to retort. We were finally reaching our destination, he was reversing smoothly with one hand checking the mirrors again. I tried my best to keep my defense.
He spoke up unfazed. "Look Imma be honest with you, the first night you stayed over, he called when I put your phone in the charger... I just thought he was your brother or sum so I left it at that but from what I'm seeing and from what I know.. I figured he had to be a nigga you used to deal with, no?"
He didn't miss. Everything he said was accurate. Nigga read me like a book. I felt exposed!
It was easy for him to examine my body language and behavior. I wasn't an expert like he was, I couldn't get a read on him... This time. I didn't know if he was mad or not.
"Well why didn't you say anything?" I quizzed looking out the window.
It dawned on me that I confronted him just to get myself in trouble. He parked switching the engine off, giving me his full attention. "I think that's a question I need to be asking you." He said smartly.
His eyes searched mine waiting for me to respond. His demeanor seemed relaxed but nonchalant as he sat back in his seat, waiting for me to say something.
Immediately, I felt wrong for not telling him about Daniel sooner."You're right. I should've told you sooner, my heads just been everywhere..." I replied not knowing what to say. I broke eye contact looking away...
Leon placed his finger under my chin to face him. His eyes were on my lips as he spoke lowly. "Try again babe, that line don't work on me."
The intensity of our 'almost argument' relaxed a little when he called me 'babe' making me look at him. It was almost as if he wanted to tell me without using any words - that he wasn't angry at me for lying.
So I tried again. "I lied about work calling earlier, yes it was Daniel - My ex boyfriend.
I should've told you sooner. I'm sorry." I looked away once more. His tone was serious but soft. "Tan, look at me..." I looked around before looking at him again.
"Baby, I accept your apology but I want you to communicate with me. I don't want you to ever feel like you can't tell me anything. I'm not mad at all, just annoyed that you lied to me back there... I want you to know I gotchu and I appreciate you. But as your boyfriend don't you think I should've known about him sooner?... it seems like he's been calling non stop. Is there anything else you need to tell me?"
Leon's mature response was a surprise to me. My eyes watered at the thought of me loosing him if things went differently, I didn't realise I fell for him this badly.
