Humming in the River(The Once-Ler[The Lorax{2012}] X Reader)

For anyone who likes the Once-Ler, I think you'll like this one regarding the imagery.

-The Once-Ler's P.O.V.-

Upon getting back to the cottage, I noticed (Y/N) wasn't there. Hearing her distant singing, I poked my head outside to see her swimming with the humming fish. I smiled then changed into my swim shorts. I headed down to her to catch her in the act.

-Reader's P.O.V.-

I vocalized along with the humming fish while they swam around me. The easy current of the river pushed against my body. I turned to swim to the edge of the grass, only to see the Once-Ler coming over in his swim shorts. He sat on the edge with his legs in the water and pulled me to him. My arms rested on his thighs as the song ended.

"I knew it," he said.

"Knew what?" I asked.

"You're a humming fish disguised as a human," he teased. "A voice as angelic as yours can only belong to a humming fish."

"Well," I said, lifting myself out of the water and onto his lap, "if that's the case, you're a humming fish playing a human, too."

"Oh, really?" he pondered teasingly. His arms wrapped around me.

"Mhm," I hummed before kissing him. He smiled against my lips then returned the gesture. My hands rested on his chest. He giggled in response to the humming fish brushing his skin as they circled his legs. I pulled back with a teasing smile. "I didn't think you were ticklish."

"Oh, no you don't," he warned. "Don't think you can get me. I know you're ticklish."

"Isn't it obvious? Sensitive is my species at this point," I deadpanned.

He tickled the bottom of my foot. "Painfully obvious."

I burst into giggles and kicked his hand away. "Don't you dare."

He held up a pinky. "Truce?"

"Truce," I repeated. I hooked my pinky with his and he kissed my forehead. I leaned back, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him into the water as I fell into the river. I giggled at him after we emerged.

He smirked. "You asked for it now. C'mere!"

I giggled as he lunged at me. I swam against the current to the away. My resistance was futile, as he soon scooped me into his arms. He held me bridal style. "Gotcha."

"You know damn well that wasn't fair," I playfully argued. "You have genetic advantages."

He chuckled softly. "Not my fault." He began humming the tune I was vocalizing earlier. My voice joined his in a (higher/lower) harmony. He began slowly swaying and spinning me around. The humming fish joined our singing with various harmonies. Love filled his eyes and smile. I could feel it practically radiating off of him. His voice made my heart flutter and his actions made me swoon.

We all finished the tune on a c major harmony. I pulled the Once-Ler's head down and kissed his cheek. "God, I love you," I swooned.

He rubbed his nose against mine with a loving smile. "I love you, too."
