It was a peaceful afternoon, the kind of day that felt almost dreamlike in its calmness. The sky stretched endlessly above, a soft blue with gentle wisps of clouds, and the sun bathed the world in a golden warmth. In the countryside, far from the chaos they once knew, Giyuu and Obanai had found a haven a place where they could just be themselves.
Obanai sat in the grass, his back resting against a tree , while Kaburamaru, his trusted companion, lay comfortably around his neck. Though Obanai's vision had faded, leaving him partially blind, Kaburamaru served as his loyal guide, flicking his tongue now and then as if sensing the world for him.
Nearby, Giyuu was kneeling by a small stream, washing the dirt from his hand after some gardening work. His single arm worked with practiced ease, his movements calm and deliberate. The sleeve of his empty right arm was neatly folded and tucked, a quiet reminder of the battles they had endured. He glanced over his shoulder, seeing Obanai sitting peacefully, Kaburamaru's soft hisses blending with the gentle rustling of leaves.
"You seem awfully relaxed, Obi," Giyuu called, his voice teasing as he rose and made his way back over to where Obanai sat.
Obanai smirked, tilting his head slightly toward Giyuu's voice. "It's called enjoying the peace, Yuu. You should try it more often."
Giyuu, tone full of warmth, replied playfully, "Is that so?"
He sat down beside Obanai, his movements slower, careful with the weight of his body as he leaned against the tree next to him. Their shoulders touched lightly as Giyuu stretched his legs out, settling in beside him.
For a while, they simply sat there, soaking in the sounds of nature around them. The breeze was soft, the sound of the nearby stream calming. It was a world so different from the one they had fought in for so long a world without demons, without the constant need to fight or prepare for battle.
"How does it look today?" Obanai asked, his voice soft but curious.
Giyuu glanced at the sky, his gaze tracing the clouds lazily drifting by. "It's beautiful, calm and peaceful," he replied. "Clear skies, and the sun is just starting to set. The light is soft, and everything is glowing."
Obanai smiled faintly, his sightless eyes gazing ahead. Though he couldn't see the world for himself anymore, he could imagine it perfectly through Giyuu's gentle descriptions.
"You always know how to paint a picture," Obanai mused, turning his head toward Giyuu, his pale eyes searching the space around him.
"I've had practice," Giyuu said, his voice quieter now, filled with the affection that lingered between them.
Obanai shifted, turning so his body was more fully facing Giyuu. Kaburamaru stirred lazily on his shoulders, his forked tongue flicking out as if sensing the closeness between his master and Giyuu. Obanai's hand moved, searching for Giyuu, and he found his way to his cheek, brushing his fingers along Giyuu's jaw.
"I can't see you," Obanai murmured, his voice low, intimate. "But I can still feel you."
Giyuu leaned into the touch, his eyes softening. "That's all that matters, Obi."
With that, Obanai leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their lips met in a soft, lingering kiss, one filled with all the tenderness they often left unspoken. The warmth of Giyuu's lips against his own sent a familiar rush through Obanai, grounding him in this peaceful moment.
Giyuu's single arm wrapped around Obanai's waist, pulling him closer as their kiss deepened. Obanai sighed into the kiss, his hand moving from Giyuu's face to rest on his shoulder, his fingers curling into the fabric of Giyuu's haori. There was no urgency in the kiss, no rush-just the slow, sweet connection between them that seemed to transcend everything else.
When they finally pulled apart, Giyuu pressed his forehead against Obanai's, both of them catching their breath. A smile tugged at the corner of Obanai's lips as he tilted his head, brushing his nose against Giyuu's cheek.
"You really know how to distract me," Giyuu murmured, his voice still light, teasing.
Obanai let out a small chuckle. "You say that like it's a bad thing."
Giyuu shook his head slightly, his forehead still resting against Obanai's. "Not at all."
There was a brief silence, the soft sound of the stream filling the air around them. Obanai's hand moved to Giyuu's chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath his fingertips. Even though so much had changed for them scars, losses, the challenges they ha faced this, right here, felt like the most precious thing of all.
"Yuu," Obanai began, his voice softer now. "I... I never thought we'd have this."
Giyuu's hand moved from Obanai's waist, tracing a gentle path up his back. "Neither did I."
Obanai leaned forward, his lips brushing against Giyuu's once again, this time slower, more deliberate. His hand moved up, fingers tangling softly in Giyuu's hair as they melted into each other. Giyuu responded in kind, deepening the kiss, his arm tightening its hold around Obanai.
As the kiss lingered, Obanai couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. Even with all the battles behind them, even with the scars and losses, here with Giyuu, everything felt... right.
But just as Obanai was about to pull him closer, Giyuu chuckled against his lips, pulling back slightly.
"Enough," Giyuu murmured, a soft laugh in his voice as he pressed a quick kiss to Obanai's cheek. "We should focus on... well, relaxing."
Obanai groaned dramatically, leaning his head back against the tree. "Fine, but you owe me later."
"I'll make it up to you," Giyuu promised, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
They sat there, the golden light of the setting sun wrapping around them like a warm blanket. The world outside felt distant, quiet, and all that mattered in that moment was the two of them together, content, and completely at peace.
For once, there was no battle to prepare for, no demons to face. It was just them, sharing the quiet intimacy of a life they had never expected to have but were eternally grateful for.
And for that, Obanai knew, he was incredibly lucky.
