Yeonjun stirs, shivering beneath the thin blanket as the morning chill seeps through. The soft rhythm of Beomgyu's and Soobin's breathing surrounds him, peaceful and undisturbed. He shifts, sitting up as the blanket pools around his waist, and inspects the goosebumps prickling his arms when the nippy air cloaks against his skin.
His gaze drifts to the tent's fabric, where dark speckled raindrops glisten faintly in the muted light. That would explain the sudden cold, it must have rained during the night.
Yeonjun exhales, glancing over his shoulder to ensure the other two still have a blanket before he decides to take one with him. When he sees them wrapped up in the same blanket with their feet poking out, Yeonjun pulls his own over his shoulders and slips on his trainers. The material under him crinkles beneath his weight.
With his shoes on and a little protection from the cold ensured, Yeonjun braces himself and pulls down the tent's zip.
The cold greets him at once, the whisper of breeze ruffling his hair. Yeonjun squints against the morning light, checking the others remain undisturbed before stepping out into the crisp air. He mumbles his disapproval, pulling his blanket tighter across his body as his hazy eyes search for food.
"Morning, Yeonjunnie Hyung." Hueningkai greets from his seat around the bonfire. He's trying to light it, struggling with a blue lighter and hugging his body against the chill. "I'm just about to make scrambled eggs, do want some?"
Yeonjun straightens as he focuses on Hueningkai, smiling at the younger's generosity. "That'd be nice, Kai-yah." He nods and walks over to join the youngest, careful not to stumble over the uneven ground.
Once the fire is lit, Hueningkai searches for the portable stove. Luckily one of them remembered to put it away last night, despite the beer bottles and cans still scattered around the campsite. "Hyung," Hueningkai says, rummaging for supplies. "Y'know what we should do today?"
"What?" Yeonjun stares at him as he waits for a reply, a hand fishing for some plates or bowls that they could use for their breakfast. They'll have to make sure to cook enough to plate the others some up too.
"Go for a hike in the woods." He glances at Yeonjun, cracking a few eggs into a pan. "Maybe we could find a bear. Or a wolf. Or a rabid fox."
Chuckling, Yeonjun shakes his head. "I don't think any of us would want that to happen. But in case it does maybe we should plan who to sacrifice first so we have more time to run."
"If I hear my name, you'll be making an unwanted enemy." Beomgyu's voice suddenly appears, a threatening message said in a humorous tone.
Hueningkai's light up in surprise, then amusement. "Hyung!"
Beomgyu cracks one eye open, groggily dragging himself over before collapsing into the seat beside Yeonjun. He stretches his arms out obnoxiously wide, and Yeonjun's pretty sure he does it on purpose based on the little peep of his eye and grin when he pushes his hand against the elder's face. "But if you're debating, may I suggest Soobin?" Beomgyu relaxes with a sigh, limbs falling limp.
Eyes distant, Hueningkai nods a little like he's thought about it before."He's the least athletic six-foot-two person I know. That means we have an advantage, slower runner and more to eat."
Yeonjun and Hueningkai meet eyes, seemingly conversing through telepathy. Then, Yeonjun nods and turns to Beomgyu. "Fine, Soobin goes first, but if any of you fall I am not running back to save you."
Beomgyu snorts, doubting the authenticity of Yeonjun's statement but he doesn't argue it, passing Hueningkai some seasoning for the eggs waiting to be scrambled. The rich, buttery scent of eggs swirls through the crisp morning air, making Yeonjun's stomach tighten with hunger. And to prove just how hungry Yeonjun is, his stomach rumbles through the calm atmosphere.
