An hour later..
Ahaan's pov:
"Gosh, I'm finally done," I said aloud, feeling a sense of relief wash over me as I closed my books. The weight of my work seemed to lift as I pushed my chair back and stretched my arms overhead. Glancing around the room, I took in the quiet ambiance, the faint ticking of the clock reminding me how long I'd been studying.
Then I noticed Inaya. "Inaya... why have you been so quiet for the last ten minutes?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I turned to look at her and realized that she had drifted off to sleep. There was something serene about her peaceful expression, and I couldn't help but think she looked even more beautiful with her eyes closed. Her long lashes rested delicately against her cheeks, and the soft rise and fall of her breathing was soothing.
"You must have been tired..." I murmured, feeling a sense of fondness for her. Carefully, I leaned closer and tucked a few stray strands of hair behind her ear, wanting to make her as comfortable as possible. As I stood there, lost in admiration, I suddenly noticed that she was shivering slightly, a gentle tremor running through her as the cool air drifted into the room.Without a second thought, I took off my hoodie, a familiar warmth enveloping me. I draped it gently over her shoulders, making sure she was well covered. Her eyes stayed closed, undisturbed by my movements, and I felt a sense of protectiveness wash over me.
I slowly tucked her in, taking care not to wake her, hoping the extra layer would help ward off the chill.
As I watched her, I couldn't help but smile. I felt grateful in that moment, wishing I could keep her safe and warm forever. Everything else faded away, and all that mattered was her comfort and peace as she slept.
I suddenly felt as if someone were standing at the door, the sensation prickling the back of my neck. I turned around, and to my surprise, it was my aunt along with Inaya's family. They had come to visit, and I hadn't even heard them arrive.
"It's pretty," her mom remarked, glancing around the room. I looked towards my aunt, who smiled and said, "I was just showing them around, beta. Are you done with your work?" I nodded, saying, "Hmm... yeah." It was a relief to take a break, even if just for a moment. As I glanced back at the others, I noticed Inaya resting on the couch, peacefully asleep.
"Why is she sleeping now?" her dad questioned, concern evident in his voice as he tried to wake her up gently. I quickly intervened, "Uncle, she just fell asleep; she must have been tired after a long day. I'll make sure to wake her up before dinner."
He sighed but nodded. "Actually, we will be leaving in a few moments and will stay for dinner next time, so please wake her up now," he insisted, glancing at Inaya. Feeling a sense of urgency, I gently tapped her shoulder. "Inaya, wake up," I coaxed softly, my voice barely above a whisper. To my surprise, she intertwined her fingers with mine and held onto my hand as if seeking comfort. "Five more minutes, Ahaan," she mumbled, still lost in her dream world.
At that moment, my heart started beating faster, the warmth of her hand sending a rush of emotions coursing through me. I tried my best not to blush, knowing I probably looked as red as a tomato at that moment. I chuckled quietly to myself, recalling what Ayaan had said earlier, and a sense of panic washed over me. I froze in that moment, desperately wishing I could hold on to her forever. But I also felt like her dad would have my head if he realized how long we were lingering like this.
"Inaya, wake up; your dad is here," I said, trying to gently pry her from her sleep. At the sound of her father's name, she woke up in the blink of an eye, her grip on my hand relaxing as she let go. Honestly, my heart ached as she separated from me, but I understood there was nothing I could do about it. As everyone started moving towards the living room, I followed them, a slight heaviness in my chest.
The atmosphere shifted as everyone began saying their goodbyes. Inaya walked towards me again, her expression a mix of shyness and warmth. "Hmm... bye, Ahaan... and about earlier..." she began, her voice trailing off as she recalled our intimate moment.
I quickly reassured her, "It's not a big deal, Inaya. Really." My intention was to ease her mind, and in response, she smiled, making my heart flutter even more. She started to turn away, and without thinking, I gently reached out and held her hand again, pulling her closer without realizing what I was doing. "Inaya, we need to stay in contact, so... can you give me your number?" I asked, my voice almost a whisper as I pouted slightly, trying to look as charming as possible.
Her laughter rang out like music. "Haha, of course!" Without any hesitation, she pulled out her phone and gave me her number, our eyes locking in a moment that felt like it stretched on forever.
Then I suddenly realized I was still holding her hand. "Will you let me go now?" she asked with a playful smile. "Oh, sorry," I said quickly, letting her hand slip from my grasp. "Okay then... bye," I murmured, feeling a sense of loss as she began to walk away.
"Bye, Inaya," I called after her, my heart still lingering in the moment, unwilling to let her go just yet. I watched her retreating figure, wishing I could hold on to this connection a little longer, already counting down the days until I could see her again.
