Branch takes care of his stubborn but beautiful wife when she's sick in bed.
Poppy groans stubbornly into her pillow as she rolled to face the doorway. Branch gives Poppy a look as he steps in the room, setting down a bowl of soup on the dresser by the doorway and making his way to her side quickly, a cold rag in his hand. "
Branch takes the thermometer out of Poppy's mouth as it beeps, checking it.
"I'm fine, Branch." The Pop Queen groans again, hiding herself further into the blankets.
"No, you're not." Branch says, exhausted already. "Your temperature is a hundred and one." He places the rag on her forehead, absentmindedly petting her hair. "You have to rest, drink fluids, and most importantly, take it easy." Branch insists gently, handing Poppy a tissue.
"I don't care what you say. i'm not sick. It's a Branch thing. I'll just keep telling myself i'm not sick," The Pop Queen paused to blow her nose. "And i'll be fine by tomorrow!" Poppy croaked, bringing blankets up over her chest as she sat up.
Branch sighs at Poppy's stubbornness, but doesn't even attempt to fight her on it. After a few years, Branch knows better than that.
"As a scientist, i'm offended. As a husband, i'm...more than concerned. Will you at the very least humor me and eat the soup?" Branch asks, getting the bowl of soup off of the dresser.
The Pop Queen give him a pitiful look, as if he had something what would instantly cure her if she begged enough. However, he was a genius, not a miracle worker. The Pop Queen decide to continue to let him care for you, letting the covers fall into her lap.
"Okay. But only because it was made by you."
"...Perky may have assisted."
Poppy smiled. "But of course."
The Pop Queen take the soup, tasting it. It's chicken noodle. homemade. The thick broth helped ease her throat, which she appreciated.
Branch had also brought her some medicine, but she was pretending she didn't see it.
"Better at all?" Branch asks softly, placing the back of his hand to her forehead, pulling the rag away for only a moment.
Poppy nod wordlessly, spooning more into her mouth.
Branch moves up the bed to sit next to her, his back leaning against the headboard.
"Branch, no...i don't wanna get you sick. I-if that's even what's going on." Poppy protest weakly as he wraps an arm around Poppy to pull her close while she eats, careful not to move her too quickly. (He didn’t want to spill your soup.)
"I'll be fine, dear. I promise. You must have caught this thing while we were out on a camping trip anyway. It’s most likely my fault. You may have even gotten it from me! Therefore, I'm most likely immune."
"Branch." The Pop Queen say in between Spoonfuls.
"Maybe so," Branch admits, reaching for a book on the bedside table. "However, it will not stop me from caring for you."
Poppy huffed a sigh before eating another spoonful of soup. Branch was about as stubborn as she was. The Pop Queen knew he’d leave her be if she asked, but Poppy sort of enjoyed having him care for her like this. Not that she would tell him that. Ever.
The Pop Queen eats her soup in silence, the warmth of Branch's chest soothing her. Poppy's nose had been so stuffed it kept waking her up at all hours the previous night. She was so tired..."Do you need anything else?" Branch asks softly when he notices her empty bowl.
"No," The Pop Queen say as Branch takes it, setting it aside and kissing her forehead. as he removed the now warm-ish rag and set it aside with the bowl. “Jus’...can you stay with me, please? You’re warm.” The Pop Queen mumble as she snuggle closer, pressing her cheek to his soft sweater as Poppy gets comfortable.
“Of course, my love.” Branch tells her quietly as he hugs Poppy closer. She shuts her eyes, taking him in.
“...I’ll be okay, Branch. I promise.” If anyone else were to try to have her stay in bed and eat soup, Poppy would have fought them the entire way. “I know.” he responds quietly as Poppy begin to doze off.
“Rest now, darling. I love you,” And then before she can respond, he quickly adds “And I know you saw the medicine on the table. You have to take it at some point.” UGH. Poppy knew that, but he didn’t have to be so SMUG. The Pop Queen could practically hear the smile in his voice.
Poppy groans into his chest. “Fine. You know what’s best, don’t ‘cha, doc?” Poppy's met with a chuckle from him as Branch kisses her hair. The Pop Queen wants to kiss him too, but she won’t. She'll wait until she's better. “...I love you too.” The Pop Queen finished, wrapping an arm around his middle and shutting her eyes once again, letting the beat of Branch's heart lull her to sleep.
