Displaced Nomad

Chapter One

In her room, Sarah lounges on her bed, one leg crossed over the other as she throws a ball up and down to entertain herself. The facility has been very quiet for the last two days, so quiet that they seem to have forgotten to feed her. She is a little concerned but it is not the first time this has happened. The lights suddenly drop and are replaced with red. Warning lights. The same ones that came on when she attempted an escape. Plus red lights never mean something good is happening. Hope swells in her chest though. Because this is a chance. A small chance of escape if she does it whilst they are distracted by something else. This could be the moment she has been waiting for, for five long months. She pushes herself to her feet, throwing the ball across the room. The door opens as Kid Flash, Aqualad, Robin, and Superboy lurch into the room before they stop, seemingly surprised by the fact that they have ended up in a cell and that it is occupied. Her eyes harden as she immediately sees a threat in him. Because she has been forced to fight him before. She killed him. She is so sure she killed him. She definitely watched his life fade from his eyes. She drops into a defensive stance, her fists held ready to fight, her eyes flickering between the four teenagers.

"You're okay" Aqualad tries, talking to her as if she's a spooked horse. She clenches her jaw as he moves towards her. "We're here to help"

"What makes you think I need your help?" She asks them.

"Urm, you are in a cell" Robin points out.

"I can get myself out of it" She argues, her eyes flickering across them again before she moves closer to them, her fists still clenched and ready.

"We're not going to hurt you" Aqualad adds, holding up his hand placatingly, stepping closer to her. "We are looking for a way out, you can come with us if you also want to get out of here" She searches his eyes before she relaxes slightly. He does seem to genuinely want to help her. But she doesn't know him. She drops her arms and then pushes through them to leave through the door. Outside of her cell, she pauses and looks down the hallway on the other side of her door. She takes a deep breath before she runs off. Leaving the four of them to stare after her.

"Dibs" Kid Flash states earning a look from Robin and Aqualad.

Sarah rounds a hallway to find a scientist rushing around, trying to escape whatever the flashing lights are warning about. Sarah skids to a stop and glares along the hallway. She moves fast, pinning him to the wall with a hand around his throat.

"Where is my shield!?" She asks as she pushes him up the wall. "And my suit?" He chokes against her hold, clawing at her sleeves. But he doesn't give her an answer. He shows no intention of answering her. She lets out an annoyed breath. Because she wanted it to be that easy. She didn't want to have to resort to plan b. "Answer me" She demands and he shakes his head. "You know what I can do...." She reminds him. "I can see it in your eyes" She searches his eyes. "Tell me what I want to know" He shakes his head again and she clenches her jaw. That isn't the answer she was looking for, of course it's not. He is forcing her hand. She sighs and pulls her glove off with her teeth. She didn't want it to come to this. She wanted him to tell her of his own free will, but she is willing to use her ability to escape this place. She shakes her head and then reaches out to touch his face. "I'm really sorry about this" She whispers and then presses her fingers to his cheek, her eyes closing as she feels her power take hold. Tearing not only the memories from his mind, but the life from his body. She needs to be careful, get what she needs and only what she needs and then release him. He falls unconscious in her hold and she pulls her hand back. "Sorry" She repeats, her expression showing her actual guilt at doing what she has done. She drops him before she heads off in search of her belongings. She is not going to leave without her shield.
