Upon arriving at her apartment, Lucy immediately set to work. She combed through old videos, searching for instances that showcased her exceptional reflexes. Hours passed in a blur as she watched countless clips of her past, her eyes sometimes misting over at the happier moments with Ilya before the tragic car crash.
One video showed Lucy catching Mia just in time as she tumbled off a kitchen counter. Another clip captured her deftly snatching an axe mid-air after it rebounded dangerously close during a practice session at the range. These were just a few examples among many that highlighted her remarkable speed and precision. She saw herself younger, vibrant, and full of life with Ilya by her side. The memories were bittersweet. After five hours, Lucy had gathered eight compelling videos. Each one clearly demonstrated her abnormally fast reaction time, a key piece of evidence that she hoped would sway the judge in her favour. Lucy drove back to the station to hand in the evidence but stopped by Andersen's office before her way to Captain West "I'm sorry if I'm disturbing but I would like your opinion on some things?" Lucy asked as she knocked on the door and Andersen looked over.
"Officer Chen, no of course not, how are you holding up?" Andersen asked and Lucy sat down infront of her as she gave her a smile "I'm alright, just blocking out my emotions" she added and Andersen nodded "Yeah, did the same, until I couldn't handle it anymore just don't let it get to that point?" Andersen replied and Lucy nodded "I won't" Lucy replied "Ehh, I was advised to have some backup on my well you know fast reaction time argument" Lucy added and Andersen nodded "So, I went through some videos and stuff I took when I was younger and found some footage which might be of some help" Lucy added and Andersen nodded "Yeah, ofcourse, I'll see them" she added and Lucy showed her the videos, instructing her on some of the people in the videos "This is good," she said finally.
"These clips clearly show your fast reaction time. They could definitely help your case." Andersen added and Lucy nodded "Thank you ma'am I'll hand them in" Lucy replied and Andersen nodded "I want to advise you, Officer Chen," Andersen said, her tone firm. "It's best not to speak about this case with anyone outside of your legal counsel. If this goes to trial, they could be questioned about you as a person or as a cop. Everything you say can potentially be used against you." Lucy nodded, taking the advice to heart. "That's not going to happen, right? I mean, it clearly shows on my bodycam that I shot after the shooter came at me." Andersen sighed, her eyes softening with understanding. "Bodycam footage is crucial, but legal proceedings can be unpredictable. Prosecutors might still question your decisions, your state of mind, and even your past. They'll try to build a narrative.
That's why it's essential to be prepared and cautious." Andersen added and Lucy nodded, "thank you ma'am" Lucy replied before walking out and handing the evidence in. Lucy waited for Jackson's shift to end as he walked over to her "Hey, shouldn't you be resting at home or at the hospital?" he asked concernedly and Lucy smiled as she stood up, slowly and wincing in pain a bit "Who would ride you home then?" Lucy joked "You came this way to pick me up, Lucy you were shot today, you broke 4 ribs and have a concussion?!" Jackson added "Calm down, I needed to drop something off anyway. Let's go," Lucy replied, trying to sound more composed than she felt. Jackson shook his head, but he couldn't help but smile a little.
"Alright, but you're not driving. Hand over the keys." Lucy hesitated for a moment, then handed him the keys. "Fine, but only because I'm exhausted." As they walked to the car, Jackson glanced at her, his expression serious. "Are you sure you're alright? I mean after everything that happened, your case, the shooting" Jackson asked quietly as they drove off "I don't know," Lucy replied softly, her gaze fixed on the passing scenery. "When something bad happens, I tend to shut my emotions off so I will feel the pain when this is all over." Jackson nodded, his concern deepening. "Just ask, alright? I just want to help you," he said gently.
