Branch knocked on Poppy's door holding a bouquet behind his back, he had been waiting all week for their movie night and he wasn't going to miss it.
Branch: Poppy? I'm here!
Poppy opened her door and smiled, she gave Branch a hug and kissed his cheek.
Poppy: Come on in.
Branch shut the door behind him and followed Poppy into her pod, she knelt down setting up the pizza boxes on her coffee table and sat on the couch. She tapped the spot next to her and Branch sat there with her.
Branch: Got something for you.
He showed her the bouquet he got for her and Poppy gasped a little as she took the beautiful bundle in her hands, she gave him another kiss on his cheek.
Poppy: Thank you, they're beautiful.
Branch watched as Poppy smelled the aroma before placing the bouquet in a safe spot. He couldn't help but admire her, she was really something special...but was he enough for her? I mean, he was a survivalist Troll and she was the queen of the Pop Trolls, what could he possibly give her?
Branch: Um...Poppy?
Poppy: Yes?
Branch: So you ever wonder if...well, sometimes when you do something...for a certain someone, it's just not enough?
Poppy: What do you mean? Branch, is everything okay?
Branch: Yeah, y'know what, forget I said anything, let's just enjoy our time together.
Branch tried to ignore what he just mentioned and picked up a slice of pizza eating it in a few bites. However, Poppy wasn't one to easily forget anything, once something got into her head, it stuck with her. She put the TV remote down and put her hands on his shoulder.
Poppy: Branch, why are you talking like that?
Branch: Um...I don't know to be honest.
Poppy: Branchifer...is there something you need to get off your chest?
Branch couldn't keep it in any longer, he had to be honest with Poppy, this was his girlfriend after all.
Branch: Well...sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough for you as your boyfriend. I mean, I can't really promise you anything. You're the queen of the Pop Trolls, and I'm a survivalist that lived as a recluse for most of his life.
Poppy's eyes widened a little when she heard what Branch said, she wanted to interrupt, but her heart was telling her to hear him out.
Branch: I mean...I had everything until I lost my family. My brothers had walked out on me, I lost my grandma to the Bergens, and I was forced to fend for myself as a little kid.
Poppy nodded as she listened to Branch.
Branch: Then I met you...but at the time, I was so in love with you but hardly spoke to you or anyone else really. I mean, you were a princess and I was a little kid. I knew you were way out of my league and I didn't stand a chance against you.
Poppy: Hey, hey, hey...don't talk like that. If that were the case, we wouldn't be together.
Branch turned to Poppy and she gave him a small smile.
Poppy: You're right, we were really different back then, but then again, we were just kids, we didn't really know what love was. I mean, all I knew was the fairytales Dad used to tell me.
Branch chuckled and put his arm around Poppy kissing her forehead, she took her hand in his and started tracing the lines on his palm.
Poppy: If I'm being honest, I really don't know what I'd do without you. I mean, you changed me, Branch.
Branch: I thought that was your thing.
Both of them started laughing and Poppy gave Branch another kiss on his cheek.
Poppy: But seriously, Branch, I know we're both really different, but it's not about how much you can get in a relationship, it's about how much you can give.
Branch: I know...
Poppy: Remember the gift exchange?
Branch: And I gave you that crappy scrapbook?
Poppy laughed again and shoved Branch lightly.
Poppy: Stop it, it was amazing! I kept it!
Branch: Wait, you did?
Poppy: Branch, it's a gift only you could give me, you put a lot of thought into it and that's what makes it so special.
Branch blushed and rubbed the back of his head.
Branch: Well, I try, it wasn't really my best work to be honest.
Poppy: Stop being modest, it was the best thing you've ever done for me!
Branch: You mean it?
Poppy: You know it, Branchifer! What more could you have done?
Branch immediately blushed and started looking in another direction which Poppy immediately noticed.
Poppy: Branch, what's with that look?
Branch: W-What look?! I'm just...uh...looking away...at your cute walls...and your ceiling...and your...everything!
Branch chuckled nervously clearly hiding something. Poppy crossed her arms and gave Branch a stern look.
Poppy: You're a bad liar, I think you've been alone for too long.
Branch: Okay, you got me...do you remember when you were hospitalized a few months back?
Poppy's stomach jumped as soon as Branch mentioned that, she didn't like to think about it, it was one of the hardest moments in her life.
Poppy: And I needed a donor? I don't like to think about it, Branch, why are you bringing it up now?
Branch: Um...memories?
Poppy: Come on, Branch, spit it out, what is it?
Branch rubbed his arm for a moment before pulling his vest back slightly showing a scar on his side. Poppy studied it and turned pale when she saw it, she pulled her dress up slightly and looked at the scar she had in the same spot. She looked at Branch's scar, then back at hers and the pieces clicked, her eyes filled with emotional tears.
Branch: I know it's not much but-
He was suddenly cut off by Poppy kissing him smack on the lips without holding back. He stared wide eyed for about 10 seconds before melting into the kiss, his hands on her cheeks. After a while, they broke the kiss and Poppy put her hands on Branch's shoulders.
Poppy: It's more than enough, Branch, your big heart is all I need.
Branch: Really?
Poppy: Listen, don't think you're not enough for me because of my status, I love you, okay? I'm still here because of you, you've done things that left a mark on me.
Branch: I guess you make a pretty valid point.
Poppy: Just promise me you won't let that idea get into your head again, okay?
Branch: Deal.
Poppy smiled and scooched closer to Branch and started their movie. They sat through it with their hands intertwined like a knot, like nothing, absolutely nothing, could ever pull them apart. Branch made Poppy happy and cheery all the time, and that was more than enough for her.
