"you lied to me!"
i hear her voice
call out, searching
desperately for a truth.
"no, i didn't!"
i respond, trying
to tell her that
i hadn't.
i didn't.
"you're lying right now!"
i can hear her voice
starting to break.
i wasn't lying.
i wasn't!
"no, i would never do
that to you!"
because i wouldn't.
i wouldn't do that to her.
"then tell me. do you love me?"
oh, i thought. oh.
"did you ever love me?"
i didn't respond.
maybe i was lying.
