"Alright then," Maverick said from his place behind the window. "I won't force you, but I would appreciate it if you tried to interact with the inflected. It would mean a great deal to our cause."

Taylor squinted, glaring at the man from a distance. She knew exactly what he was doing. The manipulative prick. Coax them into doing what he wants, with gentle words and kind gestures. Before trickling in his more aggressive demands.

It was so obvious, what was his goal here? Did he think they were simply too stupid to notice? No, Maverick was smart, he must've had a reason. He knew how to play his cards right, only question was how do they play theirs?

"Aiden!"

Taylor looked back at the group as soon as she heard Ashlyn's voice. Aiden was on the ground cackling while the infected struggled further. Logan covered his sisters ears, the noises louder.

"What happened?" Taylor asked.

"The dumbass got close and in its face!" Tyler grunted. "Seriously what were you thinking?!"

"That it was funny!" Aiden laughed. "Do it again—I wanna do it again!"

Ben picked up Aiden, scruffing him like a cat. That was a hell no. And for good reason too. Aiden could be so damn reckless sometimes.

Taylor sighed. She loved Aiden to death, but even she couldn't excuse that.

Aiden huffed like a little kid. Tyler snorted. "Hah."

"Like you could do better!" Aiden taunted, trying to get under Tyler's skin. Unfortunately for Taylor, it worked. Tyler scowled at the boy.

"I so could!" He snapped.

"Really?" Aiden grinned, a smug smile on his face. "Prove it."

Tyler grunted. Angrily, he stomped over to the infected, poking it. It growled, fighting against the chains. Tyler puffed with pride.
"See? Better."

Aiden squirmed his way off of Ben's shoulder. "Nu-uh! Cheater!"

"Then you do better!" Tyler taunted.

Aiden scowled back at him. He took off his sandal, poking the infected with his foot. "See! See!"

Taylor and Ben shared a look, concerned. Should they be worried? Probably. But mostly, they were used to Tyler and Aiden's bullshit by now.

Taylor glanced back up at Maverick. He seemed unamused by their antics. Taylor felt a chill run down her sine, those icy blue eyes hiding a flicker of controlled anger behind them.
She gulped. Ben put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing.

Taylor looked to him. She wondered if he saw it too? If he felt those same chills. Or was she being irrational? Was it just her? Out of the group, she was the best at reading people, it was her role to spot things like this. To be the heart, the glue that held them together.

If she couldn't do that, then who the hell was she? Without them? Without Tyler?

Taylor didn't know.

"Man, we weren't done?" Aiden groaned. Tyler jabbed him in the side.
He leaned in, his voice icy. "Shut up!" He snapped quietly, not wanting to draw any unwanted attention. He shifted, looking at the guard as he finished tying the blindfold around Taylor. Aiden next.

What was even the point of this? Some sort of experiment? Ok that was a stupid question, of course it was an experiment.

What would they do to them though?

As Tyler's world went dark, he tensed. He knew the infected was still chained up behind them. Just what was going on? What was the meaning of this? A gnawing feeing grew in his gut. He was with the others. What if they did something to them?

Suddenly, Tyler snapped his head up. He felt a sensation in his gut, like he was falling. He knew this feeling—he felt it twice. At the arcade, and most recently the facility.

When they let the infected attack Ashlyn and Logan.

"Guys?" Ashlyn asked, worried laced in her tone as she took off her blindfold. Tyler followed suit, taking off his.

Logan's arm was bloody, being treated by the guard already. Ashlyn stomped over, shoving the guard away and snatching Logan to her. Taylor ran over too, checking his arm. Ben wasn't far behind.

Tyler snarled, looking at the guard with Mali ace. "What the fuck?!"

"Calm down would ya?" The guard said, annoyed. "He's fine,"

"What the hell did you do?" Aiden asked angrily. Tyler felt a little shiver run down his spine. Aiden was always a little intimidating when he got upset, not that he would ever admit it.

He wasn't able to top Ashlyn though.

Ashlyn yanked on the man's collar, yanking him to her level. The lights flickered, her green eyes shooting daggers into his face.
"Talk. Now." She growled.

The man scoffed, not wanting to admit he was a little scared.
"Will you calm down? It's an experiment, he's fine."

"What experiment?" Ashlyn demanded.

The guard rolled his eyes, muttering something under his breath. Ashlyn shook him.
"WELL?!"

Logan went to place a hand on her shoulder, but was stopped by Ben. Logan flinched. Oh he was mad mad.
Ben loomed over Ashlyn, glaring down at the guard. He cracked his knuckles, a silent warning.

The guard cracked. "Look we were just testing to see if you guys would react to all injuries or just those caused by the infected!"

Ashlyn went quiet, thinking on it for a moment. Eventually though, she let the man go. He backed up, brushing himself off before scurrying out the door.
"Crazy bitch.." he muttered.

"Ash?" Aiden asked, stepping a little closer. "Are you ok?"

Ashlyn nodded. "Yeah..just thinking.."

She looked to Aiden, Eyes unreadable. "We should let Dad know."
