Rudhransh's povAs soon as I said I would also be staying, all of her family members looked at me with shock. I glanced at my father-in-law, Sasur Ji, and mother-in-law, Sasu Maa.
"May I stay for a few days, Maa?" I asked, knowing she would easily agree.
"Yes, Rudhransh, you may," Maa said with a warm smile. I looked at my wife, Prisha, who seemed unhappy about my decision to stay, but I couldn't bear to be away from her.
I glanced at her father, who was still glaring at me with a stern expression, while her brothers chatted with their wives. The room was quiet as everyone ate, until I saw Sasur Ji place a sweet Rasmalai in Prisha's bowl.
"Have it, it's your favorite," he said, his voice still firm. I looked at Prisha, who smiled with tears in her eyes, seeing the mix of care and anger in her father's expression.
"Feed her yourself, ," I said, breaking the silence. Everyone's eyes were on me as I locked gazes with Sasur Ji and Prisha. "Feed your daughter with your own hands."
The old man looked away, trying to maintain a tough exterior, while Prisha's face fell, looking sad. I was about to say more when I saw him pick up a spoon and hold it near Prisha's face.
"Open your mouth," he said gently. I saw everyone smiling as they witnessed the bond between father and daughter improving. Maa even had tears in her eyes.
"I've spoiled everything, but I'll fix it," I thought to myself, determination coursing through my veins. I began eating my food, trying to compose myself, as the rest of the family followed suit.
After the meal, I found myself in the backyard garden, engaging in conversation with my brothers on phone about work. I had informed the office that I wouldn't be coming in, and the freedom from that responsibility felt liberating.
Just as I was getting into the conversation, I felt a pair of delicate arms wrap around me, leaving me breathless. It was my little bird, Prisha, and she was hugging me of her own accord. My eyes closed instinctively as I turned to face her, and I saw that she had tears in her eyes.
"Papa is talking to me, Rudhransh," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. A smile spread across her face, and I could see the joy radiating from her very being.
I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close as she continued, "He's still angry, but not as much as before. He's talking to me, he fed me, and he even hugged me." Her words spilled out like those of an excited child, sharing her happiness with her favorite person.
My heart swelled with emotion, and I couldn't help but press her head to my chest, cradling it in my hands. "I'll fix everything, wifey," I whispered, my voice filled with conviction. "I was the one who spoiled everything, but I'll be the one to fix it."
As I spoke, Prisha's hug tightened,
"Now, will you forgive me?" I asked, my voice laced with hope. But instead of a response, Prisha's hands loosened, and she broke apart from me, wiping away her tears. Her eyes darted everywhere, avoiding mine, and I gulped down hard, knowing she was still angry and hurt.
She turned to leave, but I grabbed her hands, pulling her back into my arms. Her back pressed against my chest, and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close.
