His eyes lingered on a single word—miscarriage. A sharp ache pierced his chest as his vision blurred with tears. His gaze shifted to her—she lay there with her eyes tightly shut, silent sobs shaking her frame. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and her trembling hands clenched the fabric of her pants, holding on as if it would steady her pain.

His hands trembled as he turned to the date. It was just months before their anniversary. A painful realization settled over him—during that time, he had been away in Kanchipuram, handling a case, unaware of the storm she had weathered alone. He had returned only after ten long days, never once suspecting the grief she had buried within her.

A bitter sob caught in his throat. With a harsh swipe of his palm, he wiped away his tears, his face now set in a blank, unreadable expression. His voice, when it finally came, was devoid of emotion—cold, distant, broken.

Ashwin: epadi aachi?

Siv: Th..therila.

Ashwin: Apdina?

Siv: Na pregnant ah irunthan neh therila. (Crying) periods delay aagi vanthuchi…regular ah ilama romba bleeding ah irunthuchi. Office mudichitu doctor ta pona.. they runned a test apo than early miscarriage aagirchi sonaga.

She opened her eyes and looked at him.

He was looking at her blankly and anger was evident in his eyes.

Siv: Ash…Ashwin edhachum sollu pa…

Ashwin closed his eyes, trying to calm the storm of anger rising within him. The memory was still fresh—her dress stained, the way she hesitated when he asked about it. She had told him it was just an overflow from working tirelessly, but something about her words never sat right with him.

That day, when she finally learned the truth and returned home, she tried to call him. But days passed, and by the time he came back, utterly drained, she chose not to burden him. Instead, she carefully hid the file on the upper shelf of the unused room, waiting for the right moment to tell him. Guilt weighed heavy on her heart—she was concealing something that was their own blood, their own truth.

He, too, was troubled. He noticed how she slept, discomfort flickering across her face, the way she winced from the dull ache in her lower abdomen and the exhaustion in her body. Gently, he massaged her legs, hoping to ease even a fraction of her pain.

Siv: Paa..

He showed his palm to stop her.

Ashwin: Edhum pesatha….

Siv: Naa…unma-

Ashwin throwed the file and it hitted the wall and fell down. She widened her eyes in fear. She held his hand but it jerked.

Ashwin: Edhum pesama thoongu.

Siv: Ashwin na

Ashwin: THOONGU NU SONNA.

He laid down dimming the lights, he faced the ceiling and closed his eyes with his arms. With a sob, she laid down facing the side wall. She closed her mouth controlling her sobs, but gasped loudly, tears spilling on the pillow.

Ashwin: SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH AND STOP YOUR TEARS.

She jerked hearing his shout. She closed her mouth tightly. The night ends with their painful memory. He didn't get an inch of sleep, while she slept due to her cry.

The next morning, he reached his office not before setting an alarm in her mobile. He didn't even cook for them. He absent mindedly moved out.
