~Hazel~

Pregnant.

The word alone made bile rise in my throat. This was supposed to be my way out, my escape yet I was still entangled with at least one of them.

"Doctor, are you sure of what you're saying? I was bleeding." I spoke up as soon as I opened my eyes.

Asher saw reason in what I said and turned to him for a better explanation.

The doctor hesitated again for a moment, flipping through the test results to confirm his claims.

"Yes, I'm sure." He declared. "The bleeding could have been due to stress but you're very much pregnant."

Was he blind not to have seen the scratches? There was no internal bleeding for goddess sake or perhaps, he was covering up for me.

I nodded in acceptance, waiting for everyone to leave the room before approaching him.

"Well, congratulations, Your Majesties." He cleared his throat and broke the awkward silence.

Asher stood stiffly with no trace of a smile or frown on his face. There were no threats or accusations at me or the doctor.

Heck, he didn't even spare a glance.

"Asher? Are you not going to say anything to your wife?" Tyler cautiously inquired but Asher didn't respond.

Then, he just turned and walked out of the room.

What was his problem? For someone who nearly crashed out from losing me, he seemed quite unbothered now.

I should be relieved that he's finally letting me go without any consequences but why did my heart squeeze at his silence?

"Your husband is one hell of a hard nut to crack or understand." Tyler asserted.

I sighed, "Tell me about it."

I was the one who would be with him till death do us apart and I was already tired.

"I'm happy for you both, regardless." He added with a small smile.

"Cut the act, Tyler, we both know you aren't." I rolled my eyes.

"Honestly, I am."

"I'll be starting my own family too so it's only selfish for me not to the same for you." He held his hand to his chest and assured me.

A moment ago, they were ready to tear each other for the paternity of the child and now he was concluding that he wasn't the father.

"I thought you wanted this to be yours."

"With Asher's reaction, I don't want that anymore. He would only kill me." Then he looked up at the doctor.

"I'll go check up on him and bring him back for the test."

"Thank you, my prince." The doctor bowed and we both watched as Tyler exited the room.

After that, the doctor started to gather his equipment pretending not to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

"You knew, didn't you?" I said quietly.

"Knew what, Your Highness?" He met my eyes for a brief moment and returned to his work.

"That I wasn't really having a miscarriage."

He froze and then stared at the door before lowering his voice. "I knew something wasn't really right, but I also knew that telling the truth would only put you in more danger."

"If I had called you out, Asher would have done something terrible out of anger and I wouldn't be able to live with myself."

A sense of calm embraced me and I smiled. "You are wise man, doctor but aren't you worried about what would happen if or when he finds out you lied to him?"

He didn't spare a minute to think of an answer this time. "It was a white lie and besides, you are still pregnant."

"He would be too happy about the news to care about if you lied or not. You just have to be extra careful."

"He didn't seem very happy to me." I pointed out.

"Men like Alpha Asher struggle to express their emotions."

Or he suddenly remembered of my infidelity but the doctor didn't need to know that.

"I'll hold onto that thought, thank you so much."

"You saved my marriage."

"Don't thank me yet till Asher is declared the father of your child." He waved me goodbye and shut the door.

I believed he had taken the necessary samples and it was left to Asher and Tyler to go on with the rest.

Now I had to start thinking of my plan B.

I had no friend to seek advice from aside my wolf and even then, her words might just biased to make me stay with Asher.

"What do you think I should do?"

"Forgive him for all the times that he bullied me and then tricked me into marriage?"

"Forgiveness is part of marriage, Hazel." She started exactly how I expected her to.

I stopped listening as she went on and on about Asher going through a tough time mentally.

Getting up from my bed, I heard a strange noise from outside and it got my attention to know what was happening.

Some men were arguing outside, their voices raising higher than the other. Asher's deep voice startled them to stop but what held my gaze was the man standing across from him.

He had the air of someone who didn't fear death or anybody else. His ruffled blonde hair was a shade too light to be considered dirty but it was unkempt, as if he hadn't bothered trimming it for weeks.

His stance was relaxed, almost lazy but there was something mysterious about him.

No alpha or beta would have such aura.

He must have felt someone observing him when he glanced up at my window.

In a bid to hide, I gasped with a blush on my face.

"I hope he didn't see me," I thought to myself.

The last thing I wanted was for Asher to think that I had found a new guy to have an affair with.

But then I couldn't stop thinking about the cold beauty of his features.

Nervously, I bit my lips and sat back down, trying to erase him from my mind.

I had enough problems and another man was definitely not the solution but who exactly was he?

He didn't seem to be their lost relative because there was no resemblance whatsoever.

And he wasn't a member of the pack either.

So why did he look at Asher like they had unfinished business?
