For several months, I continued to do hypnotherapy with Dr. Burnette. She was right, it did get easier and I started to feel so much better each time.
Eventually, we did trigger my fight reflexes to test the code word and see if the hypnotherapy really did its intended job.
Every time we tried it, it worked. I snapped out of my trance and was quickly aware of what had happened, and more able to recall what was going on in my brain so I could stop it from coming on again.
Any time we did that though, I made sure there were enough people around to stop me. In case the word didn't work.
I moved in with Steve at his apartment and we started to share a bed. Mostly because the couch wasn't very comfortable, but also because falling asleep was so much easier for me when I know I can't switch.
This also meant that I had to make sure Steve had plenty of food in his kitchen.
I started going to Stark Tower nearly every day. Whether it be for therapy or to use the gym, or just to spend the day with Steve.
Because of this, I met a lot of people on the Avengers team. Both the superhuman type and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
When I met Fury, he practically promised me that I'd be an Avenger one day. Seems like that'll be whether I want it or not. But maybe that's not so bad. It's the modern-day alternative to the reason I took the serum in the first place.
