JAYCE WALKED DOWN A GRAND HALLWAY THAT FELT MORE LIKE A CURATED MUSEUM THAN APART OF SOMEONE'S LUXURY SUITE. Marble floors clicked beneath his boots. The walls were lined with radiant canvases and gilded sculptures-one piece in particular featured a bronze child riding a flamingo. Tasteful. Expensive. Ridiculous.

His guide, a woman in a gold jacket adorned with the silver Arcadian Seal (⌘), walked ahead at a clipped pace. On her shoulder, the name "Mikile" shimmered slightly with each step. She was composed, proud, and had the air of someone who would win an argument with a mirror.

"The Queen wanted to meet you for long time," Mikile said, her voice carrying that lyrical Arcadian lilt-smooth, melodic, and slightly disorienting. Think: poetry recited while being shaken lightly. "My English... eh, not best. Sorry for it."

Jayce arched an eyebrow. "The Queen? Which-?"

"High Queen Selene of Arcadia," Mikile answered immediately, almost offended by the question. "Admired by all. Brilliant. Beautiful. Strategist. Dangerous in chess and in politics. A true renaissance nightmare."

"Arcadia..." Jayce blinked. "Wait-she's-?"

"Your girlfriend's mother, yes." Mikile didn't even look back at him. It was unnerving. Like she read his mind or had been debriefed on it. "The Queen keeps eyes on her children-no matter where, no matter how far. Very mother-bird, very spy-bird. Especially Korralyna."

"...Korralyna? You mean Korra?" Jayce repeated, noticing how the hallway art had taken a darker, more intense turn-lots of battles, lots of swords, zero flamingos.

"That is her Arcadian name," Mikile said cheerfully, as if it was obvious. "She changed it when she came here. Didn't she tell you?"

Jayce's lips thinned. "No. No, she didn't." He thought to himself quietly. Was there anything else she hadn't told him?

Mikile stopped in front of a massive set of doors and turned, smiling like she'd just remembered the punchline to an old joke. "The Royal Highness is inside. She has awaited her daughter's chosen one with great anticipation."

Then, without ceremony, Mikile opened the doors and gave him a gentle-but-unmistakable shove into the room.

Jayce stumbled, barely catching himself before hitting the floor face-first. He braced on his forearms, looked up and found himself staring at a woman wearing lavender silk robe, bunny slippers, and a smirk that could melt titanium.

"Jayce Javier Anthony Talis," the woman said with playful reverence. "Finally, we meet."

She had short brown hair, electric-blue eyes that glowed unnervingly, and a face so familiar, it was like looking at Korra through a time-bending mirror. Except this mirror had clearly seen some things and had zero intention of letting you forget it.
