Graduation was so close, only days away, many of the girls in his class was running around the school gym to fix and finalise the last things and tie up a few strings. They hung posters to let everyone know that the theme of this years Prom was Rock 'n Roll hippy era. So unoriginal, but the principal gulped the idea like a sweet cake, he loved the 70s and 80s, being a hippy himself back in the days.
As everyone ran past him in the hallway, he couldn't help but feel that he really wanted to be somewhere else right now, anywhere else but here... Sam tapped him on the shoulder.
"Hey buddy, are you ready for practice later this afternoon? We have to get that song you've been working on ready for the Prom Night." he seemed to be in a hurry as he was probably heading to the class at the back to practice with the band.
He realised at that moment that he and Sam had grown worlds apart, he was not the same guy he was back then, and neither was Sam the boy that kept following his every move like a puppy.
"Yeah, do you mind if I come by a little later? I have something I got to do first." Sam nodded and winked.
"Yeah sure, go do what you have to do. Go get her back." He was surprised that Sam was onto him, knowing exactly what was going on in his mind, as always, perhaps he hadn't changed that much afterall.
"I will do my best..." he gave a weak smile and put his hand on his friend's shoulder. "Thanks."
"For what?"
"For always being my best friend."
"You know you can count on me. And, if she won't listen to you , I'll make her listen for you. I'm just glad you're over Emily once and for all."
"Yeah, me too. She deserves what's coming her way..."
"You can say that again. But hey, I got to run, see ya later." With that said Sam started walking in the opposite direction.
Alex still stood against his locker looking at the students passing by. He hadn't even spoken to Emily since the project was done and handed in. They got top marks, and he wondered how she had managed to do the good work she did on her part of the project, probably hiring the best to do it for her. But as long as he got top marks, he couldn't care. His teacher had called him in later that day saying that if he was interested, there was a assistant tutoring spot open on mythology at the local university, if he was interested. He would be able to study in the meanwhile and later also become a teacher and continue his studies later to go higher until he got a top degree. All thanks to Mr Costas. Of course he had accepted, so at least he had something to do next year.
But right now getting Ali back was the only thing on his mind.....

He stood behind a tree, with his acoustic guitar in hand. She sat in the same spot they had sat before, and he wondered if she really hated him as much as she pretended... Her hair was blowing in the breeze and he tried to see what she was trying so hard to see in the waves of the ocean, but he could not see anything except a few surfers nearby...
He walked closer, trying not to startle her, but she was so much into her own world, that it was highly unlikely that she would even hear a bomb go off next to her...
He was now only a few steps away from her, when he properly took hold of his guitar, letting his fingers caress the strings as he formed the tune and the words in his head. She did not look around yet, and he knew if he really wanted her too, he would have to start playing and singing...
He started on the intro of the song, it wasn't a rock song, it wasn't hardcore or anything like that, it was just a mellow laid back tune, but the words meant much more...
