Hi." I said, quietly.

"Oh. Hey, Kai." Ashley sighed, frowning a little.

I remember back when we were younger, she always used to be smiling. I guess things have changed.

"How are you?" I said awkwardly.

"I'm fine. We haven't spoke properly in ages... How's your life been?" Ashley asked, obviously trying to act happy.

"Pretty shit really." I bit my lip and looked up at her for a response.

"Same here..." She admitted.

"Why? What's wrong?" I jumped at the opportunity to find out how she truly felt.

Ashley seemed to change her mind suddenly and she frowned at me. "Don't you tell anyone I told you I wasn't okay." She said, adjusting her bag on her shoulder and starting to walk away.

"Ashley!" I called after her, but she didn't even turn around. For a moment, it looked like she was crying.

Then to my horror I saw Morgan on the other side of the field. He ran over to Ashley and held her shoulder.

As a boyfriend, you'd expect him to hug her and and be kind, but it seemed as though he was interrogating her.

Ashley turned to look at me just for a moment, and I stared back helplessly. Morgan followed her line of vision and glared at me.

Shit.

I picked up my bag and started running. Quite quickly, I heard footsteps behind me. I knew at once that it was Morgan.

He was going to beat the crap out of me.

"Morgan, please!" I heard Ashley's voice shake.

"Emo faggot! What the fuck were you saying to my girl?" Morgan yelled, cornering me.

Anger built up inside me. I'd never felt a feeling like that one before. It was a red hot burning, shuddering through my system.

"You made her cry, fag!" Morgan shouted in my face.

"Not as much as you do!" I screamed. "You hurt her! I can see right through you!"

A fist flew out of nowhere and it collided with my cheekbone. I gasped and suddenly felt a kick in my stomach and I fell backwards into the wall.

My head whacked against the brick, and I reached up to my face. The familiar feeling of a deep, purple bruise lay slapped on my face.

"Don't stick up for yourself. You aren't worth it. And besides, I'll kick your fucking ass next time." Morgan laughed and spat his gum out at my feet.

He turned to walk away grabbed Ashley's hand, taking her with him.

Maybe Morgan was right. Maybe I'm not worth it.
