Chapter Three
||Serina||

           I wasn't expecting that.

I was counting on a few screams, surely some threats and maybe a whole lot of cursing but I definitely wasn't projecting she would trip herself and pass out.

I opened myself up to her, allowing her emotions to swarm through me. I gasped, taking a faltering step back as her feelings hit me like a bulldozer. Daren's hand steadied me with quick ease, not even having to take his eyes off the unconscious girl in Stark's arms. She was absolutely terrified but couldn't hide the hint of fascination she had with us. Especially the one she was currently embraced in.

She had been suspicious of us all night without knowing it was a group of Supers watching her. When I had tracked down the state she was residing in, it became tricky finding out where she lived. After two days of digging, I finally caught whiff of a lead that brought me to this green house we were currently standing outside of. I had forced the group to stay back, only bringing Josh with me so he could pick up her scent. He found her room and had Daren use his air ability to blow the unlocked window open.

Josh found a hairbrush with golden strands and held it to his nose. It would have been incredibly creepy had it not been for a good purpose.

He then led us straight to her. We found her walking alongside a very annoying human girl, both of them heading for a club. All six of us tried to stay discreet in the shadows but she kept sensing us, and looking straight at us without actually seeing us. It was the strangest experience I had ever experienced in my life. It was like watching someone through a one-way looking glass and yet the person on the other side stared back as though they could see you just fine.

I had started to feel paranoid, making the shadows grow thicker and thicker until she continued on.

We followed her, the six of us in different groups. Daren and Stark were with me, we were the closest to being in sight. Josh followed her into the club, keeping a huge gap between them but making sure to keep an eye on her. Cliff and Sam climbed a fire escape ladder to the roof and watched the whole area, both of them taking up opposite sides of the building, making sure no threats were coming our way.

We had an advantage over the humans; we could hear each other from a distance like this with no problem.

Silently, we bid our time, waiting until she came out but she went for that wretched friend of hers again. I felt my own anger rise at the blatant disrespect that girl showed her.

Valerie. That's her name. Use it. My conscious whispered.

I had been thrilled when Valerie started walking into the alley, coming closer and closer. She had been two steps away from us. I had to bring so much darkness forth to keep us hidden, out of fear we would scare her to death.

Apparently there was no avoiding that.

The way she looked at Stark when we emerged told me she saw him when that boy she called "Danny" drove her away from us. Didn't surprise me; Stark had been furious. A human boy had taken her from our reach, out of our protective circle we had carefully placed around her.

It didn't halt us though. We tracked them down and found Danny dropping her off where we had first started. Again the circle was made. Cliff was on her rooftop. Sam was on the right side of her house and Josh was on the left. Daren and Stark hid with me in the shadows across from her place of refuge.
