Painful Losses

Masky limped back to the rendezvous area and met up with Liu on his way back.

"Masky!" Liu exclaimed as he rushed to the blood-soaked, injured, and weak man.

"L-Liu..." Masky weezed and started to fall.

Liu caught him in time and supported him to stand.

"Did you... Kill him?" Liu asked worridly.

"Y-yeah... He's..." Masky coughed a few times before answering again. "He's dead..."

Liu smiled lightly, supported Masky on his back, and walks back to the rendezvous point.

As they arrived, they met eyes with Eyeless Jack and BEN. The two boys sat on the ground and looked up at Masky and Liu with wide eyes.

"Masky... You made it..." BEN sighs in relief and walks up to the boys. "I'm sorry. But I cannot heal you for now. I used too much of my strength in the last fight... Which was also the reason..." BEN cut himself.

"The reason why Hoodie passed..." Liu continued as he looked down on the ground.

"It's alright... I met him and Toby..." Masky weezed as he looks at Hoodie's lifeless body on the ground.

Jack's head shoots up and stares at Masky with a shock expression behind his mask. "Toby is..."

Masky nods slowly in sadness and requested Liu to let him sit, which Liu agreed and helped the injured man rest.

Jack looks back on the ground and runs his hand in his hair. "So... We're the only ones left..." Jack said softly.

"It seems so..." Liu answered as he sat down next to Masky.

Masky's gaze falls upon the lifeless bodies of Jeff, Laughing Jack and of course, Hoodie's on the ground. "You all fought well... I just wish you all could still be here with us..." Masky whispered.

Liu hangs his head low and stands up. "I'll go retrieve Toby's body..." He stated and walked off.

Masky pulled his knees up to his chest, hugs them, and rests his head on them.

"Masky... It's alright... It's not your fault they died... You most likely even saved us. If you chose the wrong people, things could've been worse..." Jack comforted.

"Yeah. You did everything you can to win this fight. You were even kidnapped. But that didn't stop you. You still worked hard, escaped their lair, and even collected info on how to defeat them." BEN added as he sat next to Jack.

Masky smiles weakly on his knees. "Thanks, guys..."

Jack and BEN nodded, a slight grin forms on their lips.

A few minutes later, Liu returns with Toby's body on his back. He then sets the body down gently beside Hoodie. "You fought well, Toby... Good job..." Liu smiles lightly and sits down beside the body.

Masky feels devastated. His best friends as well as his comrades have fallen. And only four remained alive. The thought crushed his heart in millions of pieces. He sobbed quietly on his knees. His shoulders shaking.

Liu, Jack, and BEN stared at him with saddened eyes. To be honest, they are all devasted. Liu lost his brother again. Jack is glad BEN's alive, but his other friend, Hoody, was gone. Masky lost both his friends. He hated Toby for being very annoying. But this battle taught him that Toby wasn't all that bad. They became close friends in a matter of minutes. But Masky only wished he could have spent it longer. He loved his best friends and comrades. Too bad they're gone now...

A few minutes of silence passed and Jane and Sally came walking in with a medical kit. But their dresses were drenched in blood. Their bodies full of scratches and cuts. The boys stared at them with sorrowful eyes.

Jane saw the sight and lifeless bodies on the ground. She fell on her knees as her heart sank. Tears fell from her eyes behind her mask and muttered, "We're too late..." She buries her face in her palms.

Sally started crying hysterically. "We're sorry we couldn't make it!" She cried in between her cries. "But shadow monters fought us while going here. We're sorry!"

Jack sighed as he looks at Sally. "It's alright, Sally... It isn't your faults..."

"I-It isn't...?" Sally softened her cries.

Jack slowly shakes his head 'no'.

"It's Zalgo and his group's fault..." Liu added.

"Oh..." She said quietly.

"It's alright, Sal..." Masky comforted as he raised his head from his knees. "They're... They're free now..."

Sally smiled lightly as she heard the news. "Well, I'm happy for them."

"So am I, Sal..." Masky replied as he rested his head on his knees again.

So am I...
