17. Chore Wars

Lilly's POV
I was walking out of the lab with Adam, Bree, and Chase, I was talking on the phone. After a good amount of time, I was finally out of my boot, anyway, I heard Adam said, "Leo, I know you want to be a superhero, but that's the worst costume ever."
They continued to have their conversation and I yelled into the phone, "You know what? I don't care dad, I'm going to have a great time with my friends and boyfriend. Yeah you heard me right, dad, I HAVE A BOYFRIEND!!!"
They stopped what they were doing as I collapsed on the couch tossing my phone to the side.
Adam complained, "I just cleaned that!"
I glared at him and he said backing away, "I'll clean it again later..."
Chase sat down asking, "What's wrong, Lilly?"
I said, "Nothing..."
He said, "Come on, Lilly, talk to me..."
I snapped, "Chase, I don't want to talk about it so just lay off!"
His eyes widened in surprise and I said quickly, "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it, it's just family problems right now and I just don't want to talk..."
He hugged me saying, "I'm sorry."
I said, "Thanks, I'm going to clear my head and take a walk. I'll see you later..."
I stood up and grabbed my coat taking a walk to a hill with a tree. I climbed the tree looking at the view of the forest.
A voice said, "I'm surprised you came here..."
I rolled my eyes saying, "Whatever, M, look, I just want to say, I'm out, I'm not playing this game. I told you since the day I met Chase, I'm out, so stop contacting me and tell D to stop as well."
He said, "Not so easy, Lillian, you're not going to be off the hook so easy..."
I said, "Well, I am, you can't control me."
He replied, "I can't, but my dad can.."
I said, "He cut me off already, M, and I don't care. Just stay away from Adam, Bree, and Chase if you want to live..."
He said, "You're not threatening, Lillian, I'm not scared of you at all..."
I looked at him with daggers in my eyes, "You should be..."
He nodded and left. I sighed and went back home.
Chase immediately came up to me and said, "You were gone for over two hours, are you okay?"
I nodded pulling off my jacket saying, "Yeah, just thinking, which I shouldn't be doing, but anyway, I think I'm going to go to my room and just get my mind off of things, maybe watch TV, I don't know..."
He took my hand saying, "I'll come with you, I don't get enough alone time with you..."
I smiled nodding. We walked up the stairs to my room and I grabbed my remote to the TV. He took off his shoes, I took off my jacket and shoes, and turned on the fan. He sat down on my bed with his back against the headboard. I sat down next to him and he intertwined our fingers as we watched Doctor Who.
I asked, "Chase, does your dad ever like give you praises like other than completing a mission?"
He said, "Yeah, well, not as often than I wanted, but yeah, he does, but he's a bit too egotistical sometimes..." I nodded and he asked, "Why do you ask?"
I sighed saying, "My dad isn't really too happy with me, he's heard that someone else is top student now and he says I've failed him and that I'm a disgrace... Also, he's missing my birthday, so that's happening..."
He said, "That's terrible!"
I nodded and said, "I don't want to talk about that, I just want to watch my Eleventh Doctor save the world..." He nodded and watched the show with me.
We were getting hungry and as we left my room I said looking at him, "Thank you for caring about me, thank you for everything, Chase."
He touched my cheek with his other hand saying, "You're welcome..."
He leaned down and kissed me. I tangled my fingers in his hair as he held my waist. Our lips moved in sync and as we kissed I just wanted to kiss him more. He pressed me against the wall as his hands traveled to my back holding me close. I broke away from breath. He pressed his forehead to mine and I smiled. He pecked my lips saying, "Let's go eat..."
I nodded, and we ate dinner and watched a movie with the family. I fell asleep on Chase's chest. I woke up in my bedroom, I think Chase tucked me in, anyway I headed down to breakfast... Adam came down and opened a box saying, "Oh! Hey, guys. I got my new spray-on jeans!"
Chase asked turning to him, "How is that responsible spending?"
Adam said spraying his legs, "27 pairs in one can. That's one for every day of the month."
I finished making breakfast and we ate. After doing a bit of homework, I was on the couch with Chase and Bree. Adam came in saying, "Hey, guys. The neighbors are selling their stuff in the front yard. I spent my last five bucks on this whole basket of used socks!"
Chase said, "You don't even wear socks."
Adam said putting socks on his hands, "Hello? Sock puppets."
Bree said, "I spent my chore money starting my hideous babies collection. There's Lip-Sore Lizzy, Pink-Eye Peggy, and limited edition Triple-Chin Chuck."
I asked, "What'd you buy, Chase?"
Chase said showing us a brief case and attaching it to his wrist, "I bought financial security. That's right. Just me and my money for the rest of my life. I'm saving every last dollar. Friends come and go, but money is forever."
I raised an eyebrow asking, "Oh, and what about girlfriends?"
He said, "I said friends, not girlfriends..."
I grabbed a glass of water after I finished making my sandwich rolling my eyes playfully saying, "Yeah, okay..."
Tasha came in asking, "Hey, guys. How's it going?"
Chase said, "Great, now that you're back. Money, money, money, money, money, money, money.
Tasha asked, "Is someone cooking bacon?
Adam said, "Oh, turkey bacon. I'm cooking it in my new bacon pack. It's a bacon cooker! On my back in a pack in case I wanna snack."
Tasha said walking away, "Look, I'm glad you guys all love your chores but you already did everything. You're gonna have to wait until next week."
Adam exclaimed, "What? No, no way. I'm down to my last two pairs of spray-on jeans."
Bree said, "And I have to get that Drooling Debbie doll. She's part of a set with Barfy Betty. How cute is she?"
Chase said, "Now, now, now. If only you had saved your money. You'd be feeling as secure as- Oh, who am I kidding? I need more money too." He was acting a bit strange... Too money crazy...
Bree said, "Wait a minute. Why don't we just sell our things like the neighbors did? There is plenty of stuff around here that no one uses."
Chase said, "Well, yeah, like, this figurine. Or this book. Or this pillow."
Adam said grabbing the pillow, "Hey, I use that."
Chase asked, "For what?"
He smacked Chase with the pillow and Chase looked at him mad. Adam said, "What? You asked."
I rolled my eyes and said, "Look, have fun with selling your things, but keep away from all of my stuff, if you need me, I'm going to go down to the lab."
Chase kissed me quickly and went to gather things with his brother and sister.
I walked into the lab and heard Eddy say, "Wish we could keep Tasha in a box like that."
Mr. Davenport said, "Eddy, this is a jewelry box that Tasha's grandmother gave her. It's been broken for years, so I am going to restore it, and surprise her with it. Yeah. I'm perfect. Hey, Lilly!"
I grabbed my tablet and waved while Eddy said, "Ooh! If you really wanna surprise her, let's split town and not leave her a forwarding address."
Mr. Davenport said, "Only thing is, I have to find a place to hide it where she won't find it."
Eddy said as Mr. Davenport went around the room, "She goes in there. There too."
Mr. Davenport said as he put it into the bin, "There. Now, Eddy, don't tell anybody about this, okay?"
Eddy said innocently, "You act like I enjoy causing trouble. Oh, by the way, Tasha says she wishes you were taller."
I rolled my eyes, finished my sandwich, and asked, "What do you need done today, Mr. Davenport?"
He said, "Just go through the gear and weapons we have and test them out, make sure they are in working order. If they aren't, just put it in a pile on the table. I uploaded a inventory of all the weapons and all of the properties. If you want to try to fix some of the weapons, start with the stunners, but none of them that can melt your fingers off."
I nodded and went to the gear room, but I heard Leo groan really loud.
It took me forever, but it was fun playing with the gadgets, but it kind of stunk after I had to do the basic checks about ten times... Mr. Davenport probably made a lot of the same gadget because either Adam or Leo broke it. I went upstairs to grab an apple and I saw a lot of people in the house. I went up to my room locking the door. Anyway, I went back into the lab and there were about fifteen weapons out of seventy not working or didn't function on one of the basic settings. I had about two more types of weapons to go through and I finished it easily. I gathered up the weapons and went into the lab attempting to fix them. I was finishing the last weapon as Mr. Davenport came in saying, "That was the greatest movie ever. A pig on water skis? I did not see that coming."
Leo exclaimed, "Oh, and how about the part when the pig disguised himself as part of the midnight buffet?"
Eddy came on the screen saying, "No, no, no! Stop talking! Do you not know the phrase, 'Spoiler Alert?' "
I rolled my eyes as Mr. Davenport said, "Oh, sorry, Eddy. I was just thinking about the big surprise ending where the main pig turns out to have been dead the whole movie."
Eddy exclaimed, "Oh! Shutting down! Shutting down!"
Leo said as they walked towards the entrance to the lab, "Oh, hey, let's keep this quiet, remember? We don't want anyone to know we saw the movie. It's our thing."
Mr. Davenport asked, "Right. Okay. You wanna help me fix your mom's jewelry box?"
Leo said as he left, "I would, but I have something fun to do."
I rolled my eyes and Mr. Davenport came over to me asking, "Hey Lilly, how's your progress?"
I said looking up from my work, "Good, I did an inventory on the weapons and only seventeen weapons had a slight malfunction which were easy fixes, but one of them didn't even work, so I charged it, by the way, I put all of of the weapons that needed to be charged on the charger and they all should be fully charged with the safety on. Anyway, the one that was broke didn't even turn on after being on the charger for about two hours. Then I went into the blueprints of it and I'm fixing it now, I'm almost done."
He said clearly impressed, "Wow, Lilly. Here is your paycheck."
I smiled tucking it into my back pocket saying, "Awesome, three hundred bucks! Thank you, Mr. Davenport, anything else today?"
He shook his head saying, "Nope, thank you so much."
I said, "You're welcome."
Mr. Davenport walked away and looked through the shelf where he put the jewelry box saying to himself, "Wait, where'd it go? I hid it right here and now it's gone." He came into the main lab and asked, "Lilly, have you been in the shelf over here?"
I shook my head saying, "No, I went upstairs to grab an apple and went back to work. Otherwise, I was in the gear room this whole time..."
Eddy came on saying, "Well, maybe she found it and threw it in the trash, 'cause it's such a cheap, lame-o gift."
Mr. Davenport said clearly annoyed, "Eddy, two words. Mute button."
I followed him upstairs and he asked the trio in the kitchen, "Have you guys seen a jewelry box?"
Bree's head snapped up and asked, "Is it a little brown wooden one with a gold heart on top of it?"
Mr. Davenport said, "Yes!"
Bree said far too quickly, "Haven't seen it."
Adam said, "Me neither."
Chase said, "Nope, not me."
Adam said, "Me neither, ag-again."
I raised my eyebrows at Chase, he was an open book to me, I know he was lying...
Mr. Davenport said, "I don't know what happened to it. It was Tasha's grandma's. I was gonna fix it for her and surprise her with it. If you guys see it, just let me know."
Tasha came in asking, "See what?"
Mr. Davenport stuttered, "See- See, uh, that new reality show about the dog and the- and the bear. They, uh, fall in love and fight crime. It's adorable. It's on TV right now. Let's go watch it."
He steered her away from us and Chase said quietly, "I can't believe we sold Tasha's jewelry box."
Bree said as I grabbed a cup of tea, "I can't believe we ruined his surprise."
Adam said eating peanut butter, "I can't believe no one bought this peanut butter!" He gagged and said, "Huh. Chunky."
