Carlos

As soon as Mal's head goes under, I realize something I never knew.

Mal can't swim.

I run forward, diving into the water.

When I'm under the water, I search for the familiar purple head of hair.

I go up quickly for air, then dive back under.

Fear fills my veins.

If I don't find Mal, what is going to happen?

Just as I'm about to freak, I see the familiar color of purple floating in the water.

I go up for breath, then immediately dive down.

Mal's eyes are open, but she doesn't move.

I get a hold on her and drag her through the water and up to the surface.

I drag her onto her back on the sand.

"Mal!" I shout.

I immediately start to use CPR on her, hoping it will work.

She doesn't move.

I panic.

"Gotta call." I say, fumbling with my phone.

I end up calling Jay, but who cares? As long as someone gets here.

"Pick up!" I shout at the phone.

"Carlos?" Jay asks, horses sounding in the background.

"Jay! Get everyone to the enchanted lake! Mal went into the water, and now she isn't breathing!" I panic.

Jay hangs up immediately.

I continue CPR, hope and fear filling me.

I stare at her for a second, as she lies still.

Mal..

Its completely silent now, and nothing sounds more like sadness.

I look down, guilt, sadness, and anger filling me.

Just as I'm giving up, water erupts from Mal's mouth and she starts choking.

"Mal!" I shout.

"Wh-what happened?" She asks, sounding weak.

I hug her.

"Don't you dare ever scare me like that again!" I shout at the drenched purple haired girl.

Mal puts her head down.

"I'm sorry. I- I just, I don't know what happened." She says, hands shaking.

"I was so mad one second then the next, right before I went under, I didn't understand why I was mad." She whispers.
