10th July 2001

It was a quiet, dark night. A huge grey blanket covered the moon and the stars. The only sounds where the rattle of dustbins and the breef wush of the wind.
A woman came running down the alleyway, tears rolling down her face, and carrying something wrapped up in a tea towel. She looked panicked, and scared of something, as if she was running away, hiding.
She crouched down by a pile of bin bags and kissed the tea towel covered thing. It was then a cry burst out and I knew what it was. A child. A baby girl in fact. The woman gentley lay her baby down on the steps of a care home, and gave her baby a golden locket. She knocked on the door, and ran off, head in her hands, covering her face and tears. I looked back to the steps, and saw the door open. Miss Oaks peered around, then her eyes fell upon the girl. She picked her up and snuggled her tight in her arms.
'Hello... Is anybody there?' She whispered. 'Well, I'm sure we can find a room, some food, and some nice clothes for you, can't we. Let's go then, no good standing out her in the cold.'
