When Day Meets Night

His Return

Hi!! So this is the chapter you've all been waiting for since the end of BoO when we were all left hanging :(

Almost a month had passed since Nico had started dating Will. The damage done to Camp Half Blood during the war had been successfully repaired, thanks to the inmates of Cabin 9. One day, Chiron sent for Nico.

Nico walked into the Big House, and sat down, waiting for him. The centaur soon walked in, and explained to Nico that it was high time that proper funeral rites be conducted for those demigods who had died in the war. This responsibility lied on Nico's shoulders.

Nico sat under a tree in the forest with his notebook, making a list of everything he would need. Suddenly, he heard a WHOOSH and felt a strange sensation in his gut, that something was not quite right. To his enormous surprise, a large metal dragon landed right in front of him!

Wait, was that FESTUS THE DRAGON???

WAS THAT LEO VALDEZ ON TOP OF HIM??

"He is not dead," the voice of his father echoed in his head.

It all made sense. It would explain how he did not feel Leo Valdez's death...

Leo sprang down, followed by a nymph who had been sitting behind him. "Leo Valdez returns!!" He yelled out, to no one in particular. The nymph sighed exasperatedly.

Leo realized that his "audience" consisted of only Nico, and his shoulders slumped. "Oh..."

Nico got up and brushed off his jeans. He held out his hand. Leo shook it rather hesitantly, but relaxed when Nico smiled and said, "I knew you weren't dead!"

Leo explained everything that had happened to him for the past few months to Nico - how he had returned to Ogygia, fixed Festus the dragon and spent a few happy weeks with Calypso, the nymph, in NYC. Nico smiled and said - "Everyone's going to be so happy to see you!! Especially Jason and Piper - they were devastated because they thought you were dead..."

"Well, where are they?? They're gonna be so happy to see me!!!" Leo looked around.

"They're not here! They're at camp!" Nico was suddenly struck with a brilliant plan. "I've got an idea!!" He told Leo. "What if, we give them a surprise?? I think we should..." And he told Leo his idea.

Leo studied the son of Hades. It was an awesome plan, obviously. But what struck Leo as odd was that Nico, of all people, dark - gloomy - boring Nico, had come up with it. Hmm. Maybe he had underestimated the boy, Leo thought.

"I like it." He decided. He looked at Nico with a newfound respect. "I'll hide out here with Festus and Calypso until then."

Calypso, the nymph, had been watching all this with interest.
She nodded. "I like it," she said, with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Leo's officially back!! And yes, I know there wasn't any Solangelo in this chapter, but there will be in the next one!!
