When Day Meets Night

Singing by the Campfire

Hi!!! Hope you're enjoying the story so far! :)

Nico took a second helping of strawberries, and promptly emptied them into a bag as no one was looking. He slung the bag across his shoulder, and snuck out of the dining pavilion.

But Will Solace saw him. "Where do you think you're going?? We have the campfire now, and you promised yesterday that you'd sing with me today!!"

"I... Uh...I'll be back soon..."

"Listen here, Death Boy. I've noticed that you've been sneaking off after dinner everyday for these past few days. Where have you been going?"

"Will, you've just got to trust me. I can't tell you. Not yet. I can't tell anyone."

Will looked disappointed. "Okay. But are you okay?"

"Yup." Nico smiled. Will trusted him!

Nico walked through the forest carrying his bag full of strawberries and also some bread and cheese he had managed to scrounge earlier. He came to a small clearing and smiled to himself as he saw Leo and Calypso sitting on the grass and laughing about something.

He cleared his throat. "Hey! I got you dinner!!"

Leo leapt up. "Great!! I'm ravenous!!"

Nico sat on a stone as Leo and Calypso gobbled up the food. "Sooo..." Leo grinned. "How's everything with Solace??"

Nico felt himself turning red, like he inevitably did every time some one mentioned Will. Ugh. He knew he would regret telling Leo about his relationship.

But Nico found himself unnaturally grinning back. "Awesome."

It was time for the campfire. Nico slouched down in his seat, hoping Will would forget about the singing thing.

No such luck.

"Nico! Neeks!! Come here!"

Nico groaned inwardly. Reluctantly, he made his way to the centre. There was no way out now.

Will sat on a rock with his guitar. His blue eyes shimmered as they reflected the dancing flames of the campfire, and were lit up as always when he smiled.

Nico walked to him and stood beside him. Will squeezed his hand, and then started strumming the first few chords of the song. Then he sang the first few lines of the song in his beautiful, clear voice, looking straight into Nico's eyes.

Before Nico knew it, he started singing along. He sang perfectly in harmony with Will, and at the end of the song, everyone stood up and applauded.

It was the best night of Nico's life.
