I had to admit, no matter the amount of disappointment I was feeling, what I knew was about to happen was too funny to bring me down completely. As for L, I knew he wasn't excited at all, and he was probably going to hate me for all the enjoyment I was getting out of it later. But until then, I was going to have as much fun with it as I could.
Once Light and Misa were brought to the hotel and given their clothes to change into, L put handcuffs on one of his wrists and the other on Light's. The chain was about a meter long, so they never had to be right next to each other. Light held up his wrist and asked, "Is this really necessary, Ryuzaki?"
"This is as difficult for me as it is for you," L replied, and I could tell from his voice that he was really hating everything at that moment.
"So, this is what you meant by being together twenty-four hours a day with him? Looking at you, I never would have guessed. Are you on that side of the fence, Ryuzaki?" Misa wondered, making hand movements to make the question seem less awkward.
"No!" I answered quickly.
L repeated, "I told you, I'm not doing this because I want to, okay?"
She looked between us and smiled, "Oh, are you together?"
Light said before I could even open my mouth, "Yeah, they are."
I denied, "N-No, we're not!"
"What? Really? Oh, sorry. My mistake," he apologized, rubbing the back of his head nervously.
"I thought so, too," Matsuda interjected. I turned to glare at him.
"Yeah, you two do act really close," Aizawa defended. I felt myself blushing and glanced over to see L not in much better shape.
My friend stated, "Well, we're not."
I muttered sarcastically, feeling how hot my face was, "And thanks for the many opinions."
Misa asked, "Then, why else are you here?"
"I'm Ryuzaki's successor. If anything happens to him that compromises his ability to work, I will step in and continue on as L. I'm usually called H, but for this case, I'm Hikari Kita. We actually met at your arrest," I explained. "Sorry about that, by the way."
She gasped, "Wow, I never knew L worked with anyone!"
I shrugged, "Yeah, well, you and most of the world. My nonexistence keeps me anonymous."
"Either way, Light belongs to me. I don't wanna share him with you! If you're with him 24/7, then how are we supposed to go on dates together?" Misa complained, going back to the matter at hand.
"Oh, you can still go on dates, but it'll have to be all of us," L confirmed.
She exclaimed, "No way! Are you telling me we have to kiss in front of you and stuff?"
"I'm not telling you to do anything, but yes, I suppose I'll be watching."
"That's so gross! You really are a pervert, aren't you?" Misa made a face.
L asked helplessly, "Light, please make Misa stop talking now." I put a reassuring arm over his shoulder, but I still couldn't help but snicker. He glared at me, "You realize you're finding this too amusing, right?"
I contradicted with a bright smile, "I believe I am finding the perfect amount of amusement, thank you."
"Listen, Misa. That's enough," Light told her. She gaped at him. "The police have already established that it was you who sent those tapes, so you're lucky to even be here right now. They have every right to keep you in pris-"
