Chapter 50

After Near's call, I walked out of the kitchen and yelled, "Hey, Misa? I'm going back down. I'll try not to be down there so late this time." I heard her squeal Light's name, and my eyebrows came together. There was no date planned, and he wouldn't have gone up there by choice. What's L doing now? I asked myself as I sighed.

"Do you love Light from the bottom of your heart?" L asked. I could hear it from the hall, so I entered our living area. I frowned seeing how close he was to Misa on the couch. How much had I missed downstairs?

"Huh? Uh, yeah! Of course I do!" Misa answered.

"But you also worship Kira, don't you?" he wondered. I walked over to Light.

As she confirmed what we already knew, I whispered to Light, "What happened while I was gone?"

"Ryuzaki said it might be best if you both worked the case separately from the rest of the Task Force now that we won't go along with everything he says. I had to come with him since he won't unchain me," he explained quietly.

L moved closer as Misa backed away from him, and Light tugged on the chain to pull him back, "So then, if you had to choose between Light and Kira, who would you pick?"

"What?" Misa shrieked. She ran over and hid behind Light. "That's obvious! Of course it's gonna be Light! I'm really grateful to Kira, and I want to meet him someday in person," she hugged his arm, "but that's not true love. I definitely choose Light."

I chimed in, having always been bothered by that fact, "But Light wants to catch Kira as much as we do, right?" L looked over his shoulder at them.

"Well, yes, of course I do," Light nodded.

L quickly moved back over to Misa, "He says he wants to catch Kira. Now, what will you do?" I gently pulled him away from them before wrapping an arm around his shoulder, partially as a way to keep him there.

"Well, if that's what Light says, then I'm gonna support him, no matter what," she revealed. "It's no different than what Hikari would do for you."

"I see. So if you were given the opportunity to work with Light on this investigation, would you take the offer?" Light and I both protested in shock.

"Yeah! Of course, I would! I'd do anything I could to help Light," Misa told us. I couldn't help but remember that she said something like that before about Kira....

"Wait! Hold on a second."

I scolded, "Don't you think you should have told me about this?"

Light added, "Where are you going with this?"

"We did discuss some of this. We're planning to have Aiber pose as Eraldo Coil again. He'll tell the Yotsuba members that while he was investigating L, he discovered that Misa Amane might know who he is. He'll also tell them that L brought her in for questioning under the suspicion that she was the second Kira," L explained. He knew I knew telling me meant that we were going to tell them. I hated how he was such a smartass sometimes. He stood up and wrapped an arm around my waist, moving away from them some and taking me with him.
