Kenzie's POV
The weekend flew by way too quickly. I was happy to see Nick on Friday night, and I knew Mom was too.
I didn't have a nightmare Saturday or Sunday night, so I'm probably getting over it.
I also hadn't had a lot of trouble about that picture on Twitter. I didn't even know Mom saw it until she said something Saturday morning.
It's Monday morning now, and I just finished getting ready for school. I met Mom at the door, and she drive me to school. As soon as I walked into first period, Clarissa waved at me. I smiled and waved back.
"Hey," she greeted.
"Hey," I responded while taking my seat.
"How was your weekend?"
"It was good. Pretty normal, I guess. How about yours?"
"Same," she responded right before our teacher came in and started the lesson.
Lunch came soon enough, and I sat with Clarissa where we usually sat.
"Hey, did you see the new kid?" Clarissa asked.
"Who?"
"His name is Conner. He's pretty cute." I giggled at her reaction. "Oh, there he is," she said, trying to be subtle as she points him out.
He didn't look too bad. His dark hair complemented his green eyes nicely. He started to smile, and his dimples started to show. His teeth were perfectly straight and white.
"Hello," I heard Clarissa say as she snapped her fingers by my ear.
"Hmmm?"
She smiled at me. "You have a crush on him."
"What? No I don't."
"Yeah, you do. You were just staring at him. I don't blame you, I mean look at him. He's gorgeous."
"Well, you can have him. I have no interest."
"How come?"
"Because we are only in middle school. Most middle school relationships don't last more than three months. It would be a waste of time. Besides, who has time for boys anyway?" I asked.
Clarissa rolled her eyes and we continued to eat. I had to admit, Conner was pretty cute, but I wouldn't have a chance. There are so many pretty girls at this school.
My last class finally came, and Conner showed his face in the doorway. The only empty seat available was next to me. I tried not to stare as he sat beside me. I glanced up, and he grinned at me.
My father's grin made my stomach turn.
My eyes quickly shifted back down at my desk, even though there was nothing there.
At the end of class, we had a few minutes before the bell rang.
"Hey," I heard him say. I thought he was just talking to someone else, but I was wrong. "Hello?"
I looked up. "Oh sorry, were you talking to me?"
"Yeah," he said with a smile, showing off his dimples. "It's Kenzie, right?" I nodded. "Cool. I'm Conner. I just moved here."
"Oh, how do you like it?"
"It's alright I guess. I was missing my friends back home, but then things got better."
"And how's that?"
"I started talking to you."
Just then, the bell rang. I gave him a small smile as I felt my face get red. I hurried out of the room. Once I was out of his sight, I cringed.
"Hey," Clarissa said, making me jump a bit. "What's wrong? Your face is red."
"I have got to be the most awkward person on this planet."
