then you closed your eyes, you took my heart by surprise. i wasn't expecting that.

Luke was in a coma.
But for a split second, he woke up.
Ashton was by his bedside, staring at the boy he loved.
Luke said one thing before his eyes closed for the last time,
and before he took his last breath,
"Thanks for talking to me that day in the cafeteria, Ashton. It changed my life."
And just like that, the heart monitor went flat.
Luke Robert Hemmings was gone.
Ashton was sad,
but at the same time- Ashton was happy.
Ashton knew Luke was sad.
And Luke has wanted this since high school.
Ashton wanted what Luke wanted,
and if Luke wanted to be dead,
then Ashton was okay with it.
No, Ashton wouldn't survive without Luke, but Luke chose to leave himself without saying goodbye.
That made Ashton sad,
but he knew he made Luke sad.
Ashton deserved this for being such a bad husband.
Ashton will never forgive himself for making the love of his life leave.
But at the end of the day, he still doesn't regret talking to the shy and seemingly sad new boy at lunch that one day in high school.
It was the best day of each boy's lives.
But nobody expected it to end so quickly.
Nobody was expecting that.
